If anyone has a older Windows-based laptop they can lend or donate to the Brandywine Motorsport Club, it would be very helpful to us. We just ordered a new Farmtek timing system to replace our old hand-transcribed timing setup.

I would be happy to pick it up or pay shipping. Just needs to be functional. Thanks in advance for any offers or leads.

Barring that, any tips on what is the best way to buy a cheap used laptop? Craigslist, you scary.

I just picked up a ASUS notebook brand new for $279.

Best Buy has them listed at $264 now.

At that price, I'm temped to pick up another one.

I think I have a couple of XP era Dell notebooks. My plan was to harvest parts out of them, so you'd be putting them to much better use. I do have to make sure they work, however.

And that right there is why this forum is cooler than anything. If I can pay it forward I will be honored to do so. Thanks, gents.

PM sent! Thank you, sir.

I have a Dell as well, but likely needs a new monitor. Fair game to anyone.

Not to threadjack but there's a chance that I will be losing my work laptop in a few weeks and its been the only reliable non-smartphone/tablet in the house for a few months. After the OP gets everything he needs, I'd be interested in grabbing one for home use if there was another one laying around gathering dust. I lost my desk when we set up the nursery so somewhat portable is better but beggers cant be choosers. I dont need anything special, just something that I can run a linux distro on. Things are alittle tight right now, but I should be able to pay shipping plus maybe alittle extra in a few days. I know its asking alot, and I hate to even have to do it but any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!!

Let me take a look at home to see what I have laying around. I think I have a Thinkpad that would do the job.

I have two older X-series (the compact ones with the smaller screens) Thinkpads going spare - both are working fine but I never use them, plus it looks like I need to buy a newer laptop anyway.

Just bringing this back to give a shoutout of massive thanks to Datsun1500 who hooked me up with a neat little HP netbook without hesitation or cost of any kind. He even offered to help me out in other ways if this machine doesn't work out for us.

Sir, you are a gentleman and a scholar, and I hoist a virtual beer in your direction. If you ever make it up to Delaware for on of our autocrosses, your entry is on me.

Thanks!
