Anybody own an Infiniti EX35/37 or QX50?

For some reason these have gathered my interest. I know the fuel mileage on premium gas kinda sucks.

Interested in some personal testimonials, for the version up to 2017, with the VQ engine (not the newer newer 4cyl flavors.. but it's GRM so have at it). 

I literally just won a copart G37X, if thats in the ball park.  I'm eager to learn about them.

They're always mildly intriguing to me and the exterior styling is actually attractive, I say actually as in that segment, nothing really is. With a roof rack and utility trailer they can be quite utilitarian as well, though that's adjunct accessory heavy to be so. 

Everytime I consider one I realize that a RAV4 is ultimately the better tool for the job, just dressed in beige. And that if I really want a fun small to mid size crossover, that a 1st manual RAV4 with a 3SGTE swap is that answer. 

Same platform as the G35/37/Q60/350Z/370Z/Etc.

Dad had a G37, my best friend did as well. They both really liked it... but thought it somehow fell short for some reason we could never quite dictate. 

No real help here though. I like them and just wish they could tow a little bit more.

We have a 2016 QX50 we bought used in 2019 that's our main daily  driver.  Currently at 128,000 kms (~80000 miles).   Our average combined fuel economy to date is 9.3 litres/100 kms (almost 27 mpg US) according to the car's info screen.  Yes it runs premium, but cost per mile isn't any worse than my Frontier pickup that gets maybe 20 mpg on regular.

Only maintenance to date is I have just changed a front wheel bearing.    The QX50 replaced a 2008 EX35 that also was trouble free other than 2 front wheel bearings over a 8 year period.   

Anecdotally, my wife has just mentioned there's a 2020 listed for sale locally that she thinks would look good in the garage....

Edit...  Only the AWD versions are available in Canada.  And yes.... it will shift at 7000rpms if floored

Thanks for the testimonial. High points for me: The VQ is a pretty well known engine and it's not a CVT. I need to go drive one. 

I am also curious to know what the 2016-17 models are getting recently at the Mannheim auctions. I got my Mazda6 from a "cost +500" guy and that was a good deal. 

OHSCrifle.... I agree 100% with the comfort of the VQ engine... we currently have 3 versions in our ownership.  

2016-17 QX50s are running in the low to mid $20k Cdn in the eastern Ontario market with mileage in the same range as ours.  Friend sent a link for a 2017 base model at a dealership in Toronto with 36k kms (~22k miles) and asking price of $25k. (He's also looking for one after traveling with me to Toronto and back in September (10 hour round trip)).

The QX is a sporty suv, perfectly sized to 2 adults and 2 dogs (us), but can take 2 adults in the backseat if needed.  As mentioned by MTN it's based on the same rwd chassis as the G series sedans and 350 and 370Zs.  Road noise is probably more than would be found in an equivalent Lexus or Lincoln, but I've never found it too intrusive, and consider it part of the sportiness of the car. A test drive is always a good idea.

For another data point, my sister leased three EX35s/37s in a row, partly because she wanted a simple decision process and a short learning curve but also because they had great amenities and were exactly the right size for 1 person + dog, with occasional stuff-hauling and road trips. IIRC none of them had significant issues, but she found the cost of suitable tires a bit eye-opening.

She might have continued with a QX, but (i) she was ready for something different and (ii) her dealer wanted her creampuff trade-in so badly he could taste it, and got pushy. Bad move. She took her business to Volvo, and got the last XC40 in stock in the province, with no more expected for months. FWIW, she's now talking about buying the Volvo when the lease expires and keeping it forever.

One of her EXs was a dark wine colour that absolutely rocks with a brown interior. Very classy.
