No. My gubmint job would frown on daydrinking but I have been bringing up the topic more and more often lately. Maybe a couple with lunch would help reduce the stresses a bit.

I did hear about a guy (before my time, isn't that how all the good stories happen?) who would drink while mowing until he fell asleep/pass out and have to be driven home. Regularly.

Even when I drank, drinking at lunch caused me to;

A. Want more

B. Pee a lot

C. Want a nap.

My buddy encouraged me to drink 3 Mickey's Wide Mouths on a 30 minute lunch.

The wide mouth helped it go down faster. Another bad idea in my drinking days.

Our VP is a long time brewer (as are a number of the developers) and is trying to startup his own winery. So yeah, drinking on the job is a given. Although it's usually a beer or two at the end of the day while playing ping pong.

Ahhh, the joys of software development in a high tech booming city....

I work with radiation. No food or drink in the lab. Plenty of 100% ethanol though.

So what the heck is 100% ethanol if not drink? You contradict yourself!

We use this in our processes as solvent. And NO we cannot drink it.

If you started working in a lab within the last 15-20 years or so, the concept of never putting anything in your mouth is pretty strongly ingrained. Including DI Water, ethanol, the plants you're doing research on in the case of the plant pathology lab I worked in for a while, etc etc

That being said I know more than one person that has "borrowed" a bottle or 2 of 100% ethanol for "home experimentation" use...

At the last job, the VP would come around with a booze cart at noon every Friday though.

I used to work for an Australian company. Drinks at lunch were optional, but encouraged. The office kept a fridge full of Fosters and Australian wines in a conference room for drinks after 5, which was almost a condition of employment. I'm not a big drinker, so I didn't see that as much of a benefit.

However, the "business meetings" in the strip bars with lap dances on the expense account were another matter entirely...

The company I rent an office from doesn't care. There is always beer in the break room fridge. When it isn't taboo most people could care less about drinking on the job.

When I worked at a party/events center back in college, drinking (free keg beer) was almost recommended by the owner.

Many moons ago I worked for a forklift shop. We had a drink machine with one blank button, that was Budweiser. Strict company rule was we could not partake before 5pm, but at that hour the whole PLACE showed up.

But that's the only place I have worked which even allowed alcohol on the premises. Well, other than after hours company functions. The VW dealer I worked for was so strict that I once got an expense check back that was $4.70 short; that was for the 2 beers I had with a steak dinner. Hell, I was in Jacksonville Florida and it was 7 pm!

Beer Baron wrote: Head brewer at a microbrewery. So... yup... although a lot less than most people think because I will not drink when doing heavy lifting, climbing into enclosed spaces, or messing with strong chemicals. Today is a rare exception of more than usual because I'm nitrogenating a beer, and the only way to really check proper levels is to take two big sips from a pint.

I did not have much luck with the nitrogen bit. Maybe you can be the first NO2 conditioned ale?

It's after 3:00 so I guess I can open this 22 oz. bottle of Russian Imperial Stout from Fool Proof Brewing Company(Pawtucket, RI) called "Revery."

9% ABV

But of course I'm not at work.
