I drug this out of my neighbor's shed yesterday. It still turns freely & sounds like it has compression. At first I thought it might be a Maytag since it's kick-start, but all the ones I've found online are different. Unfortunately there's no tag or stamping on it to identify it.
Any ideas?
Two stroke or four stroke? It does look kind of like a Maytag, but there were a number of different manufacturers. Briggs and Stratton built a similar stationary engine but theirs were four stroke engines.
Most of my engines are stationary...
Sorry I got nuthin.
Joey
There are a bunch of similar washing machine engines, got some more pictures? You might want to poke around on asecc
Not a Maytag. Not sure what, let me do some digging.
Does the side view look something like this?
As near as I can tell it's a Johnson Iron Horse. Probably made in the 30s to 40s. If you get a chance shoot a picture of the head bolt pattern.

You get 'em to run on paper?
American Pickers will offer you a buck two-ninety eight for dat
The thought of fixing it & putting it on an old bike has certainly crossed my mind, but I'm really just trying to help my neighbor find a new home for it. I have way too many unfinished projects now anyway.
So, any idea what it's worth? I haven't found much pricing info online.
When you said old sationary engines, my first thought was those with two flywheels and ran at about 100 rpm and and you could count the four strokes as it gave the distinctive put-put sound.
I could not imagine running a washing maching with one of those...
