What you need is a Judas Goat. Or in your case a Judas Chicken.
You tie the live bird with a short leash to a stake in the ground. You do this on nights with a bright moon.
The Judas Bird needs to be placed so the cougar feels safe approaching but you have view of the kill zone.
You hide in a blind and wait for the cougar to come eat the bird. You shoot. You need to be quick. You might get a 3 second window.
This is a tried and true method used by tiger hunters. (Tiger hunting is unpopular now-a-days but used to be very popular in the times of Jim Corbett in India.)

With the light blinding her eyes, I'm sure it did look like a dog to her.
It is funny how when they aren't really hunting, big cats DGAF.
Karelian Bear Dogs are excellent for keeping bears/lynx away and ours is great. That being said, some places outdoor chickens are just asking for trouble unless they have a covered enclosure.

Also start taking the cats to a rescue.
Then once you trap the cougar, take it to the rescue. It's only really funny if you take them some standard felines first.
I'm at work. That got me laughing so hard, if someone had walked by, they'd have hauled me to the funny farm!

...I think the plan is to leave them in the coop...
Forgive my ignorance, but shouldn't this have been step #1?
Might I suggest this thread about tape box traps...
Just make a tape box outside the coop and the Cougar will have no choice but to sit in it until you coem to collect it....
I didn't think I did but this is a few blocks from the office.
