I found a 1971 coin today. On the back it says New Pence and the number 2. On the front a woman and some writing around the perimeter..... something something Elizabethan or something.

Worth any bit? Google is sending me all over the place

Sounds like one o' dem furrin' coins.

I collect some U.S. coinage, but nothing of significant value.

I can't imagine any coin minted in 1971 is going to be worth much, unless it's exceedingly rare.

Edit:  Well, shut me up.  Does it look like this?

Eh, it seems the coins bore the words "New Pence" from its introduction in 1971 through 1981.  In 1982, that changed to "Two Pence".  The valuable coins are some minted with "New Pence" in 1983.  These are rare.

I don't know that a 1971 would be worth more than a few bucks.  Not sure what makes the one I linked above worth $190.  Probably just hoping some sucker will buy it.

Edit:  I just checked ebay.  Prices on these things are all over the place.

Searched ebay for the item, auctions only, show only items with bids.  None have any bids.  No demand, no value.

Keep it as a novelty?

The big dollars are asking prices for "buy it now" and they're just fishing for suckers.

My son collects coins.   State quarters and National parks.  I can pick out old coins in my change but not interested.  My dad loved to collect coins.  My son also collected stamps and postcards.

Wouldn’t it become valuable when the Queen dies Since money will be changed to the image of the new King?
