I've spent time driving and hooning multiple Daihatsu HiJets at my previous job where we used them to transport workers and engine parts around our campus. They recieved no maintenance for years and the fleet continued to run in spite of the abuse. I never drove one at more than 30mph, and I don't think any distances would be enjoyable in one of these trucks. Maybe a short run into town for a few items at most, no more than 55mph. Using them as tools around the yard, farm, or forrest seems like the best bet. I did enjoy the locking diffs and wringing out the 660cc three cylinders but I wouldn't really call one fun either.
