I was cruising the classifieds on a local forum and found one of these for sale for $50.
It needs " a battery" even though it's supposed to take a dozen AA batteries and I assume there's some flexibility in the price.
My son has "the knack" and LOVES tinker with mechanical things and I was wondering if those more knowledgeable than myself could weigh in on whether or not this would be (GRM) appropriate for a highly mechanically inclined 5 year old.
Mini-Ts are great. A little cheaper compared to 1/10 scale. Be careful with the mods. Once you turn it into a rocket ship they tend to shatter. They won't blaze through the grass well, but you can set up a small track indoors, especially the basement. You can set up the car so it isn't too fast for him.
Ever see a Micro-T?
I got into RC cars at a young age, and I think it was good for me. I was more into the nitro powered ones, and more into the touring cars, but I had a few off road ones.
For a young kid the electric ones are the way to go IMO. Far less cleanup, far less stuff to burn your hand on, you don't have to start the engine every time, you don't have to tune the carb, you don't have to handle flammable liquids, etc... Don't forget, kids love jumps, and the touring cars wouldn't like that very much. I say go for it.
Nope, I've never seen one.
He says "a battery" because the dozen AA batteries are in a pack that hooks up with a 2-wire connector.
Sounds legit.
Wow! 4.5" long x 3.5" wide...that's itty-bitty!
Hm. Never seen one of those. I will say that I sold off my RC10 stuff and rolled all the $ into Losi and was not real thrilled with the outcome, I shoulda kept the Associated stuff.
Gonna promote my buddy's shop if I may.
His name is John Riewe and he owns and operates http://www.ftwrc.com/ in Austin. He's a huge car guy too. If any of you get into RC car stuff, check out their site and support a fellow gearhead.
Thanks for allowing a little thread jack.

I tried an Electrix Ruckus truck last year, sorely disappointed. I'd love to buy something worthy of bashing around the backyard while the fiancee is gardening, but leery of spending $200+ again on E36 M3.

Mini T's are awesome. I have a Team Associated 18MT, and that thing is amazing. MINI-T's are effectively the Losi version, good stuff.
