Seems like it. The way I look at it, that's probably more "humane" than poison. Also, don't misunderstand me, I'm not a fan of random wholesale killing, but my understanding is these are decimating the native wildlife in Florida.

Killing these is not bad because they are an introduced species. Not supposed to be here. As you said, they are wreaking havoc with naturally occurring species.
One of my customers owns Newport Jerky Company. One of his offerings is python. In fact the delivery van has a vinyl wrap of a python going all the way around the van. He owns multiple rental properties, and every time he pays me, the check is accompanied by a one pound pack of super spicy beef or venison jerky.
I don't think it is the hunting of Python that is so dangerous, it the hunting of Python in an area where other things can easily kill you that makes it a challenge. You'd best know those swamps well
