I wish I would have had a camera handy, but last night around 2am on my way home, I saw a train with new humvee's as far as the eye could see. There had to be a couple hundred of them. They pretty much looked like this:
That was the first time I had seen these. They look bad ass. I did a quick google search and didn't turn up much about them, so I was just curious if anyone else had seen these.
It kinda reminds me of the car drawings I used to do in elementary school, but in an awesome way. No proportional aesthetics, all intent.

It's possible. They were heading south west along the Ohio river. There's a 50/50 chance there were heading into Kentucky.
I see all the cool new vehicles coming down the freeway out of the Oshkosh truck plant everyday. But I don't recall seeing those, Oshkosh has a different personnel carrier..........
They may have actually been that one. The pic I found in the first post was the closest I could find to what I saw, but I think I remember the front looking more like the one in the pic you posted.

That's one of the JLTV prototypes: but I doubt you saw that one, since they haven't made "hundreds" yet, to my knowledge. The JLTV is a proposed replacement for the Humvee but there's talk of "recapping" the existing fleet. The vehicle about is being built with/by BAE (I believe the Santa Clara group). It's also called "The Valanx". 3 major contenders: GTV (AM General and GDLS) BAE (above) Lockheed Martin
I believe Textron/Boeing are working on one with Millen. Neat stuff: at 15-25k lbs, they are AMAZINGLY capable offroad.
Sure you didn't see the Oshkosh M-ATV? (Above) They're building thousands of those.

I have to believe that something smaller then this is going to be developed at some point however. Theres too many small narrow roads in these countries for this thing, it would take forever to turn around if need be. The Humvee, although out of its league in this type of warfare, is just so much easier to drive and handle then the MRAP line of trucks.
Sorry, the M-ATV is most assuredly not the long term solution/replacement for the Humvee. The M-ATV was designed as a "MRAP All terrain Vehicle". IE: Light MRAP. They've only ordered 6500 of them or so. JLTV is still the slated Humvee replacement. For now.

A lot of them have inserts that allow the vehicle to "run flat".

Ok, a little more accurate. What i should have said was: In the field in Afganistan they are using these in place of the Humvees because of their abilities and safety improvments.

In the picture those look like RG33's. Those things are MASSIVE. Theyre actually built to blow apart when hit, absorbing the blast. Dont think theyre fragile trucks though, these things can take a beating! Unfortunatly, nothing we got can stop the baddies new favorite weapons, EFP's and RKG3 grenades, but these trucks are a huge improvement when it comes to more conventional IEDs.
So when are the diesel hummers going up for sale as surplus?
Before 9/11 the hummers were for sale as surplus. IIRC a trip to Fort Knox and $2500 would get you a 15-20 year old HMMWV that had had the snot knocked out of it but it was still a hummer.
