I'm not all up on recent consoles, so i'm stuck with PS2 and Gran Turismo 4, which i just starting playing again over the weekend.

Is anyone interested in a challenge or three?

As a warning, i'm into "weird" challenges. Such as:

"Special Ed edition: FWD 4-banger street cars on Laguna Seca. No restrictions other than no turbo, no supercharger, nitrous is AOK."

Gives everyone a chance to see what a 335hp Honda Accord Euro R does on Laguna Seca with a 100shot of nitrous. (HILARIOUS)

But i'm willing to change in the interest of friendly competition. Anyone interested?

This would be a lot of fun, maybe a sticky if it turns out well? A GRM video game challange board? Good for keping the reflxes up during the off season. to make it fair, each challenge shoud be with the same stock car. PS2 w/GT4 sould be popular enough. GT3 is fine too.

It has been done before and is lots of fun. I will do it again.

But from here on out my driving will be done by GT4's in game Stig (a.k.a. B-spec mode)

I'd be down for it... but let's do something REALLY entertaining... like the E36 M3tiest tires on ANY RWD vehicle, other mods unlimited :) (on laguna seca of course!)

That'll make for entertaining replays, but i think i would throw my controller through my tv.

Or we could do Street Car Unlimited on Trial Mountain? That track is deceptively tricky. Can't have too much power, or you literally fly over the braking area at the end of the back straight.

We have to figure out something! This will be my entertainment tonite!

If you guys have a copy of rFactor I'll host a head-to-head race (I am a huge fan of the Historic mod Fiat Abarths & Porsche 911S). Saaay at Barber, Lime Rock, VIR, Mid-Ohio, Sears Point or Laguna?

As far as the PS2 GT4 Challenge may I suggest two requirements?

1: Races to be run between 5:00pm Friday and 6:00am Monday.

2: Best single lap and best overall time from continuous 20 lap session.

20 laps? Tire wear or no?

I would vote for posting times by X rather than between x and x.

I like having a deadline, then onto the next challenge?

20 laps might be a little excessive depending on course. I'm sure at some point, the Ring will come up, and personally, i don't have the patience to really do more than 5 laps of that track. Call it ADD or whatever, i just can't do it.

But who is interested? What track? What car/type of car?

I'd like to keep it slightly open in terms of car, just to see what strange things come out of the woodwork, rather than just running a "spec" class. I'm not great at the game, playing with a normal controller, so i spend a lot of time in the setup screens tweaking to make up for my weaknesses.

Just keep it simpler than the last time we had GT4 challenges. Those where done full $200X challenge style with a short coarse, drags and concourse. Just one set race, (X) track with (Y) laps, please

Yeah, i wasn't planning on anything like that, though that would be fun later on in the dead of winter.

I was thinking "Street Car Unlimited" maybe separate classes for FWD and RWD/AWD, unlimited mods, and maybe a different track each week?

One winner for fastest single lap time, and maybe a winner for fastest multi-lap time. Someone suggested 20 laps, and we could tweak from there depending on track length?

I'd personally like to stay away from the "Race cars" at the moment.

How about a schedule:

Week 1: Laguna Seca 10 laps

Week 2: Infineon Raceway Sports Car Car Course 10 laps

Week 3: Seattle 10 laps

Week 4: New York 10 laps

Week 5: El Capitan 10 laps

Week 6: Costa di Amalfi 10 laps

Week 7: Cote' d' Azur 10 laps

Week 8: Citi di Aria 10 laps

Week 9: Circuit de la Sarthe 3 laps

Week 10: Nurburgring Nordschlief 2 laps

First vehicle set to be chosen by committee, 3 similar P/W ratio cars to be used (can someone find the GT4 car set list again?) and the top three finishers choose the next vehicles.

In reply to John Brown:

That could work... but personally i'd like to see the car list left wide open, to keep this more for E36 M3s and giggles, and for the potential of "You got that time with what?!?!?"

For instance, a bunch of us on another forum did an impromptu challenge like i layed out in the first post.

N/A FWD 4-cylinders only, no other restrictions, nitrous ok, Laguna Seca.

Interestingly, the top three times were set by: Levin BZR (me), Integra Type R ( Someone else), and Honda Accord Euro R (me).

Not one person thought that the BZR would even be a viable weapon, they just all jumped to their Hondas and went to town.

But in the end, it's all about the friendly competition, so i'll do whatever everyone else wants to do.

So, first track is Laguna Seca. What cars are eligible? And are we sticking with Unlimited mods? I'd prefer to see unlimited, since if i wanted to drive a slow car on street tires, i'd go flog my real race car on some backroads.

Any way you all could be convinced to maybe choose the car set a bit more open-ended? Like... choose a country or region instead of 3 similar cars? If you go by p/w, you can end up with something like the Ginetta vs. MKiv Supra, and that's silly.

I came up with a schedule, you guys call the car.

PS I really like the no holds barred idea except I would need a three week head start to build credits.

How about only using one car NHB?

I only have the OE controller no wheel (I can still hustle a car with the controllers though)

Bah, you don't need near that long. Do that one rally a few times that gives you the Toyota RSC Rally Raid car.

I just run some of the endurance races on B Spec while i'm sleeping or something.

I'm rocking OE controller, too.

Still fine to crack down to a 1:16 on Laguna Seca in a FWD Failmobile, though.

I tend to pick up my seconds through tweaking, i'm not particularly good at this game.

I'll play around tonite, and see if i can't come up with a few cars, maybe try to get two classes going. I'd still like to see separate FWD and RWD/AWD classes. At the very least, it'll be interesting to see how far the two classes are separated, if at all.
