I spent a lot of my younger years leading volunteer teams with Habitat for Humanity.
I had one group of college students who were with me for an extended time. We were building a house in a week, and our team was responsible for the kitchen. We had pre-built the cabinets and counters, and were installing them in the house. I was VERY picky about my kitchen installs (still am).
We had finished installing the cabinets and needed to set the Formica counters, but there was something we needed from the shop. I told my crew to go ahead and set the counters while I ran to the shop. I stressed how important it was that they MAKE SURE they did not use screws that were too long. That was the one terrible mistake they could make.
When I returned from the shop, there were a half dozen screw tips pointing out through the top of the finished countertops. They had used screws that were too long.
Except they didn't...
...they had taken a few screws and cut the tips off them and stuck them on the top of the counter with clear caulk!
They got me good!!
