Nitrogen almost threw me, but I got 13/13.
I think there is something to be learned from the male : female correct answer ratios.
I don't think it means women are ignorant or stupid. I think it says something about taking science based tests for fun. (To clarify, I am saying that my hypothesis would be that men would be more inclined to take these tests and have more of a interest in getting the answers right.)
I also thought it was interesting that they reference a female scientist or doctor (can't remember which) and the ladies got this one right more than the men did. I am sure that means something. Why did they even need to specify the gender?
Anyway, 13 out of 13. top 7 percent (of the 1006 people initially surveyed)

Odd, I didn't even notice.

They give the answers at the end
mad_machine wrote: ok.. 13/13... does this mean GRM are the 7%?
Nope....we're more than a couple standard deviations away from normal.
Streetwiseguy wrote: 13 of 13. The low correct ratio on question 7 explains how people can get sucked into paying more to have their tires inflated with nitrogen.
13 of 13 here, and yeah I find it hard not to giggle when I see those green valve stem caps.

There's different types of 'deviant'.
I got them all right but failed the gender. I could have checked for the answer but thought it is was cheating.

Same here. I am only the 8%.
13/13. That "better than 93%" scares the berkeley out of me, because I really didn't think it was that difficult. OTOH, the 18-29 and "some college" demos make me feel a little better. A little.
no, it's not all that difficult.. but having spent all morning as "moral support" in family court today, I can see some of the people there failing badly.
What scares me about that test.. we are talking about people going online to take it. That has to be a smaller (and hopefully smarter) percentage of the population than going up to the average jo/jane on the street and asking them these questions

You've never read the comments on a YouTube video, have you?
13/13 Which is what I would expect from people on this forum. Some other car forums I frequent, not so much!

You're right. I forgot that Pew was comparing our scores to their results from asking the same questions in meatlife.
JoeyM wrote: Yeah. I was REALLY disappointed when I gave it to my students, and they didn't get all of them (what was it, 13 questions??) correct. My only complaint was the plate tectonics question. The addition of "scientists say" or "the concept of plate tectonics teaches that" would have allowed for the Young Earth Creationists to answer that question in a way that showed understanding without acceptance.....my recollection is the current wording requires them to take a stand as to what is true or false about the age of the earth.
science doesn't care what anyone believes... it deals in facts.
Awww man, 12/13. Stupid hydrogen vs. nitrogen. That was the only one I even waffled on... nitrogen was my initial response, but I psyched myself out.
Unsurprisingly, more educations = better answers, but some college and college grad were pretty close (maybe indicative of graduated being more a test of persistence than learning). Also not surprised that younger mostly did better either. I think education is better than it used to be more than people realize (at least for my generation... 20-30... I've heard some scary stuff of my friends with children in school).
I was surprised that women were out answered by men for every questions except the drug study one... maybe women handle lots of the household health decisions or since they outlive men there are more of them in and around the health care industry?
