Because of the recent media scare (not a realistic possibility BTW) of Russian nukes, I thought I would look up and see if there is an estimation of the Russian targets for nukes.
This sort of confirms what I expected when growing up in the San Francisco Bay Area, during the cold war. I was comforted by the fact that I was certainly in a highly targeted area (lots of high priority military targets around) and I would certainly be vaporized rather quickly. The last thing I would want in the event of a nuke war, would be to survive the initial attack, especially being near but not close enough to a target.
The triangles are primary targets, the black dots are secondary, in the event of a 2000 missile attack (seems like a lot of them are silos)

If you want an estimation of single warhead, here is a simulator: https://nuclearsecrecy.com/nukemap/
(not sure what the typical yield of a Russian ICBM is, but 2000 kt is probably a good guess?)
Uhhh, I live in Oak Ridge, TN. No danger of fallout here. A clean, swift nuclear death awaits us.
If anyone is a target we all are......
What's going on over there is just crazy - in fact the whole idea of invading was crazy IMHO, but now that the "allies" have been providing modern munitions and have turned the tide I don't see a good way out for anyone.
It's a true clusterf***

Eight miles away here, so I might get to see the flash before being crisped...
Living in Philly, sandwiched between DC and NYC, I figure my chances of even seeing a nuclear attack are slim.
The valley is already radioactive and about as far as it can be from one of the danger dots. Have fun guys!
I'm equidistant from the triangles that are Mayport NAS (Jacksonville) and the cape. So no clean vaporization; I have 3 hours to hightail it to the center of the largest building I can find for 24 hours (yes, I've researched this--why would you not know it?), then I will emerge with my family in the post-apocalyptic landscape. Lock up your jams, jellies and canned goods, Central Florida; I know what I like (everything) and I'm not shy.

Just outside the Pittsburgh triangle. Not sure we're really still a target since the steel mills shut down.

I was always told that the two most likely places they would hit in the Chicago area would be where I grew up, because it is halfway between Chicago and Milwaukee, and where I live now, because the fallout would get pretty much all of Chicagoland. No clue if that's true or not.
I live too close to Hollywood and closer to SpaceX
no problem here !

I'm in the big grey bit to the North. I guess from the map I will be totally fine(I say facetiously).
Vaporized. What me worry?

Nah, Pittsburgh is fine. I feel bad for those chumps that live near Pittsburg, though.
I thought I had improved my situation by moving from Columbia, SC (double target as a state capital and Army base that is their largest recruit training center) to SW VA. Then I learned that there are 2 private companies that do nuclear stuff (at least one related to naval vessels) in Lynchburg. The one triangle in SW VA...

Woo! Nobody wants Canada!
We're 100-yards(if that) from a USAF base. Thankfully I won't be around to deal with the aftermath of whatever is left.

Maybe the various animals you have there will mutate and take over the Earth?
CENTCOM at MacDill AFB is in Tampa, right over the bridge. IIRC there are also a few defense contractors in Pinellas County. I expect I won't hear it coming or might get the "what a strange light" thought pass through my brain before it does.
BTW, that interactive nuke map did freak me out a little bit. The radioactive fallout plume size was an eye opener.
Have been for ages. Strategic Command, home of air force 1 and the largest fiber junction in America all within 10 miles. you may see the outline of my house in the rubble.
I can walk to the Capitol in less than 15 minutes.
The Atlantic City region is targeted in both 500 and 2000 warhead simulations. Hopefully I will be on my boat when we go.
I'm pretty far from everything, but we're pretty radiated already from all the testing in NV 50 years ago.
