For the first time in 14 yrs. Army held on for a well earned victory.
Army had 4 turnovers and Navy 3 when I left for work, appeared neither might be done coughing the ball up tho. Spirited game but no dog in this fight. Helluva win streak Navy. Good for Army. Nothin' like a good ol rivalry.
I missed the first half, and saw the second- interesting game that Army went up by 14 in the first half, and one would expect that they would continue that- but the game turned upside down. Navy got massive momentum and put up 17 points all the while Army could not move the ball.
Then, once Navy got the go ahead TD- Army woke back up again- and put a great long game winning drive together. Then held Navy to a 4-out AND moved the ball just enough to finish the game. Pretty dramatic.
I'm no military person, but it's hard not to get emotional when you see those kids jumping- and then the two academies singing their alma mater. Very cool. Literally, these players and fans ARE our future leaders.
Huh. The impression I got watching some of that game was that while these might be brilliant military cadets with bright futures as cogs in the great global oppression scheme ... that is for the best because they suck at football.

Really good football players (or any sports players) basically never go to the academies. With a requisite term of service after graduation (I believe for 6 years), there is essentially no chance of them getting drafted.
I back Navy because my brother went there. Still, good on Army for the win. Given the nature of the academies, I'm most impressed when one of them manages to pull a win against another big-name university like Navy has managed a couple times against Notre Dame.

Not only that but the requirements other than just academics outside of football and they still have to conform to that services "PT" qualifications. I believe that you can be drafted from a service academy, there are stipulations though.
A friend of Gary Hunter's ( GRM/ CMS do-it all man) has a grandmother who is from Hawaii. This woman was a huge football fan, and had watched the Navy coach when he was a high-school football player. About 14 years ago, she started making leis for the coach before the Army / Navy game. The coach was touched and would always wear these. He became good friends with this grandmother, and would wear a new lei each year, always made by the same old woman. Navy hadn't lost since he started wearing the leis--- 14 years in a row.
Unfortunately, she died this year--- and although someone else made the coach a lei--- Navy lost.
Coincidence? I think not!
I spent 20 years in the Navy, so I am obligated to root for Navy, but I didn't go to the acadamey, so it's not something that I ever really got too excited about either way. After reading Alfa's post above, I feel bad for giving up on the game early and deleting it before the Navy comeback. Neither team looked very good.
