So I am going to Austin for the MotoGP race at COTA this April and am just looking for some advice on places to stay/locations to stay, things to do and place to eat at. We will be flying in mid-day on the 4/8 and will be leaving mid-day 4/14 so we will have a few days to check out other things when race activities aren't going on.

Just looking for some input and advice from some locals and past visitors to the area as I am sure there are plenty that have been to COTA for MotoGP/F1/LeMans.

Also how are the grounds at COTA? From reading it sounds like it is going to be a different experience from my normal one at Road America. Is there much to do at the track when racing isn't going on? Sounds like paddocks and everything are off limits unless I want to fork over a bunch of cash. Places to see there? Good GA spots to check out?

Thanks in advance!!

I did it two years ago.
The track is out in the middle of nowhere (like most tracks I suppose) so you're going to be traveling back and forth. Traffic in Austin sucks. Plastic shopping bags are illegal forcing you to carry armloads of food to your car. An absurdly large perecntage of Austinites put an absurdly large amount of energy into being 'weird'.
Food at the track is decent. Bring sun block. There was an article on Jalopnik (I know) outlining all of the available bathrooms, it's worth a read.
I would absolutely go again. There is nothing quite like watching the bikes in person.
