None of those look at all like an E30. Or a Lumina for that matter.

I wouldn't say those are copycats. They share a basic shape, but that's because they all are two seaters, and are mid engine (IIRC). That typically dictates the basic shape. I'm talking about the blatant refusal to style your own cars so you just copy someone elses.

Do you suppose the red rectangle on the starboard wing was put there to cover up a NASA logo?

Hey! I liked the "dustbuster" gm minivans. Radio station I worked at had one as our station vehicle.. it was a cool van to drive around in.. especially all black with the tinted black windows.. some rims and lowering, it would have looked evil.

As for Ascari using Hyundai Taillights.. just look at the Fiat 124 coupe and the Lamborghini Miura.. and a couple of other italian cars of that age.. all used the same taillights. (which makes getting replacement tailights for a fiat 124 coupe VERY expensive)

I know I'm gonna get bashed for this, but I have never understood the fascination with the Corrado's styling. I much prefer the Scirocco over the Corrado, but both hit me with "FWD" everytime I see them. The Corrado would have been sweet with AWD, but with FWD, the styling just doesn't do it for me. Just strikes me as a more sporty golf or a less utilitarian VR6 economy car.

Oh, and the new Jetta looks like crap. I think the Kiyashi looks much nicer and more aggressive, even if it does marginally resemble the VW.

Looks more like the 2010 Suzuki Kiyashi. Apparently Suzuki knows how to style a car if VW will be trying to keep up.

Aston Martin used Scirocco taillights for awhile.

TVR used Ford taillights for years.

Lotus used some off-the-shelf tailights, too.

Tailights seem like a stupid thing to custom-make if some off-the shelf unit will work.

And the weiner mobile uses fire bird tail lights!

As for VWs, aside from the beatle they all look the same, just larger or smaller and a few different rear end choises(sedan/hatch/wagon) And last time I looked, same went for audi

The Jensen Healey and an Aston Martin share a taillight assembly. For the longest time, just about everything British used the same Lucas 'beehive' lamp assemblies with different color lenses, clear for reverse, yellow for turn, red for running lights.

It happened with lots of other stuff too: the J-H also uses a Humber outside door handle handle and heater assembly, the same 'eyeball' dash vents as a late '60's Mustang, British Ford defroster vents, a Sunbeam transmission, Vauxhall front suspension and rear axle, a Lotus engine and various other bits and pieces. About the only things made specifically for the car were the body sheet metal, the glass and the dash.

Yeah, that's why I said what I said. I knew Bryan went from DCX to GM.

More importantly, he designed the PT For Chrysler under Bob Lutz's watch, then followed Lutz to GM and designed the HHR... under Lut'z watch. At least they weren't styling copies of each other, merely similar concepts (and the PT wasn't amodern version of any specific car, whereas the HHR was a moder version of the '50s Suburban, shrunk down)

That's the propaganda they spread. Just look at it. It's not a modern version of the 'burban, it's a GM version of the PT. One of the worst attempts at copy-catting I've ever seen.

x7,210,947 I still get people in new Jettas walking up to the black Corrado at the gas station (after they notice the VW badge) and wondering out loud why their dealer didn't have one on the lot..

You know, i've always wondered what one of these would look like if the hatch/end of it ended after the last side windows. Sort of a coupe-ish shape rather than hatch.

I don't know how it would look, but I bet you'd finally be able to see out the back of it..

Why does that look like crap? Nice proportions, decent lines, and the headlights and openings look like they are actually scaled for this car and not something twice its size. A decent grille instead of a gaping maw that will inhale stray pedestrians. Nice size wheels that fit the arches, and no 4 inch wide panel line around them.

I fail to see the crap here. If it was a little more angular, this is exactly what the new TSX should have looked like.

That isn't the current generation of Jetta, it's just a rendering of the 2011 model. I personally think the current Jetta looks like a Corolla. The only reason I'm interested in the looks of the Jetta is because I could consider owning a TDI someday, but not if they make them look Corollas.
