I'm gonna guess a lot of you won't respond to this post as I have noticed that basketball isn't a popular sport on this board. Anyways, I've always been a huge Magic fan, stuck with them just like I stuck with the Tampa Bay Bucs through all those miserable years.

Anyone have any comments or predictions on this series? Anyone think it's funny that Nike, The NBA, and Vitamin Water wasted all this money advertising Kobe vs. LeBron just to have the Magic smash their dreams?

I was in Champs Sports two weeks ago while the Magic were still playing the Cavs and the Lakers still playing the Nuggets and they had Kobe Vs. LeBron shoe setups, Jerseys, etc. I was like is there any Magic swag in here, I mean we are in Orlando?

I predict I will see a lot more of those stupid Lakers flags on peoples cars.

It's amazing how they always manage to make it to the Finals, the NBA loves to play favorites and it showed up perfectly clear this year with the LeBron vs. Kobe ads.

Dwight Howard just isn't as marketable as Kobe and LeBron... A bit part in a T-Mobile commercial (If Chuck pulled his hamstring, why is he grabbing his ankle? ) isn't going to cut it.

So is the sport about marketing a player or winning a championship? Last I checked I played sports or raced to win...having fun is just a bi-product. I'll take Dwight all day over LeBron who gives a crap if he is marketable or not. He's Superman btw.

Yes. It's a combination of the two. Now that TV is in the game, it's all about ratings and money. Has been that way since the 80's. Don't kid yourself WRT the $$ being thrown around nowadays.

Oh, I play to win too. BUT I don't have kids idolizing me, wearing t-shirts with my likeness, I don't have people patterning their game after me, I don't have people paying a ton of money to watch me work, I don't have people rocking a pair of "captain_napalm" kicks.

Don't underestimate the business side of the game.

I'll take Kobe over both. I'd be willing to wager the NBA sees it that way too. And I'd also be willing to wager that Stern & Co. are salivating at the idea of "King James" playing in NYC.
