I was thinking myself that the bigger the wheels, the easier to roll over X height of grass. So yes, my first two choices still rule. Dude-Bro annoyed me just slightly.

What i've learned with RC car stores is you're going to run into two types of people. Brand whores, and actual RC nerds. The brand whores think they know everything, and will give you E36 M3 for anything that isn't within their scope (I run a shaft driven drifter, most of the people I know run belt cars, and I dislike a great deal how the belt cars feel... I get E36 M3 for it all the time) the RC nerds will tell you exactly what's out there, what they like, and what they've seen come in. Sounds like you got a brand whore. I'd say, buy what you think is cool, and go from there. Just don't buy it from Target.

Dude-Bro? I thought you meant these guys. Only one is quality.

While I second anything made by Traxxas for durability, it sounds like you really want the Wheelie King. Buy it. HPI makes good stuff, too. I think you'll be happier with what you really want versus what everyone else says.

Vaterra Twin Hammers

New car, but bugs have gotten worked out.

Modeled after actual Twin Hammers race crawler.

AWD, 2-speed, RTR including LiPo and charger.

If tire that comes with it isn't getting you thru the grass, hubs will take Monster Beetle/Blackfoot wheels.

Need to go bigger? E-Maxx or go on the 'bay for used Clod Buster but these will be big $.

Could go 1/8 buggy and not have to worry about mowing lawn anymore. . .

+1. He seemed really down on HPI and saying you can't find parts for them, yet I had just walked down an aisle full of HPI parts. Whatever shiny happy person. I bought an HPI road car last year & it's been fun, just don't use as much as I thought since it needs a really clean and open area. The truck will be a spur of the moment backyard toy.

Hah, good to know the old shaft vs. belt drive argument hasn't died, must've been back in 97 or so when touring cars got popular. Probably before that even with 4wd off road.

<-- still have an original associated tc3 team edition.

TC3 is a GREAT chassis. I have a friend that still runs one for carpet/drifting. Since all the drift cars are basically touring cars with wicked steering setups....

I had an HPI nitro truck once. That thing damn near broke me. Every single time I took it out it came home in pieces. I started replacing suspension pieces with billet aluminum pieces and when it finally seemed like the truck didn't want to self destruct the engine wore out. I no longer play with RC stuff because I'm not a millionaire but if I was I would still have a hard time getting something besides an HPI.

The Dude abides.

Did you spend the first few minutes after unboxing just marveling at the way this thing is built? A real axle! Ring & pinion gears! A remote mounted servo with bellcrank steering! And it comes with everything. Hell, the battery was even charged a bit. Give the manual a good look, there is a ton of cool gearhead stuff in there. The exploded diagrams are killer!

Mine eats up my backyard, even the three foot tall wheatgrass junk. Bowls it all over and keeps going. To me part of the fun is mastering the realistic monster truck handling. I'm already thinking of a 21-turn motor swap just to see what it does. Heck, it is only $20. I spent more on beer today than that!

Welcome back to the hobby!

Thanks! The Ruckus really soured me on RC & I admit I missed it. Glad I took a chance on this one, especially after seeing yours. I love how this thing is already a decent rock crawler. I might do that conversion eventually. Time to go play...................
