Hero Cat Saves Boy From Dog Attack In Amazingly Candid Video

Think the phrase "scaredy cat" applies to all felines? Think again.
A little boy was riding his bicycle in the driveway of his Bakersfield, California, home when he was suddenly attacked by a neighbor's dog, ABC affiliate KERO reported. Luckily, the family cat, Tara, came to the rescue.
The scary encounter was all caught on camera and uploaded to YouTube by the boy's father, Roger Triantafilo, who noted the kitty's amazing feat.
"My cat defends my son during a vicious dog attack and runs the dog off before he can do additional damage," Triantafilo wrote in in the video's description. "Thankfully, my son is fine!"
The child's mother told KERO he needed a few stitches but is OK otherwise.
Cats can be very territorial when it comes to people they like, im not surprised.

That cat hit that dog like a bus. I'd give it a fresh tuna steak for that one.
wow! My cat would have watched the little pinkish monkey get eaten alive. That guys cat deserves some tuna.
I bet it didn't do it for the kid's sake. It just hates that berkeleyin' dog. I've watched enough cartoons to know what goes on. There was a mouse that set the whole thing up sniggering away on top of the car.
When I was a boy, there wasn't a dog in the neighborhood that would come in our yard. We had a 23# calico that absolutely HATED dogs. She would attack any dog that came in the yard, but wouldn't leave the yard to attack one. Even the people walking their dogs wouldn't walk down our side of the street. They knew they were safe on the other side.
Pretty amazing video though. Cats like their space and their people. I'm betting the dog was bleeding too.
Just saw it on liveleak. Protective little bugger saved the day.
I should always remember to check here first because Woody will have it posted already.
HIMS A GOOD BOOOOOOYYYYYY!
My son has a cat that is extremely protective of him. The little turd bit me on the leg one time after giving my son a little swat on the butt when he got in trouble lol
Anyone else wonder why there are so many surveillance cameras in that neighborhood?
Jujst saw this on the CBS (National) Evening News. Which tells you quite a bit about the state of CBS Evening News.
Not surprised. Many moons ago I had a female gray tabby who was very territorial, there was a collie up the road which made the mistake of wandering into my yard one day, the cat LEAPED off the steps, grabbed the dog around the neck and went to bitin'. I watched the cat ride that dog out of sight, dog screaming the whole time. The cat came back maybe 5 minutes later, sashayin' along and switching her tail. That collie refused to even get on my side of the street afterwards.
Our cat kept a hungry bulldog of some sort out of our yard for 2 hours. It was a stray with a collar so SWMBO put out water & food trying to get it close enough to look for a tag. Eventually the dog said screw this there's got to be a better way & wandered off.
In reply to Spoolpigeon:
Our cat gets hyper after a whiff of bleach. She bit that thin piece of meat on the front side of my shin this morning because SWMBO was cleaning with bleach. Not even protecting anyone...just walked up purred reaaaly loud & chomped.
My little one has a 90lb half Great Pyrenees watching out for her. She is the only one that damn dog completely listens to. She is 4 the dogs only 1 1/2

Yeah, that freaked me out too.
Not surprised in the least. The cat we had growing up was similarly territorial.
The cat would go claw my mothers leg every time my brother cried as a baby. Additionally, the neighborhood dogs got beaten up if they came into our yard.

I've got 10 of them on my house and shop all tied into a DVR that records all motion.
holy cow. that cat hit that dog hard enough to knock its block off...
I hope the dog's owners are made to see the err of their judgement in poor responsibility of their dog with legal consequences...

I'm a dog lover but that dog needs to be "put away". Attack a child (especially in the childs own yard)there shouldn't be any second chance for that dog to attack anything else
And then charge the owners with negligence or something
That was a viscious attack. Sadly, that dog does need to be put down. I'm glad that puddy tat was so brave. Man, that was a hell of a hit though. Good thing that dog ran, wouldn't be much left of him if he hadn't.

I dont know, my grandfather had a 25 lb tomcat that was extremely territorial and spent 10 yrs outside attacking stray dogs that wandered into his yard only to get it from a rattler that it caught. that cat in the video wasnt about to let that dog get its balance back
The cat and her family will be on the Today show shortly!

I'm glad somebody said it. It's the first thing I thought.
When provoked, cats can go nuts, and can be territorial. The fact that the cat BUTT CHECKED that dog across the driveway was awesome! And the fact that she was so chill on the couch after... that cat rules.
My favorite part is the kid describing the cat. "She is a HERO!" greatest line in the whole video.
