Wagner is for driving der Porsche!

Repetitive Techno music is for the Miata. Either that or Anime Jazz tracks from Yoko Kanno.

I just looked it up and it was written for lent. So, it should really be an Easter thing (that being the truly "big" christisn holiday) not at Christmas.

Personally, I prefer Beethoven to Handle any day.

As for the commercialization of the holiday? I really don't se that much difference from when I was young. Kids still want the latest and greatest toys! Adults still complain about how it has changed so much from their childhood. I have two trees because when my daughter was 5 she told me I had to get a "Daddy" tree, as the 3ft one was hers. I still put them both up because h=she likes them. When she gets older I will probably only put up one.

If you don't like a tradition then stop doing it. That is how traditions change over time. (see above about Handle) I won't get started on how religion takes things from what came before.

Ranting begins in 3..2..1...

This is a sore subject for me. I'm born on Christmas and am really starting to be put off by all of the "Christmas Spirit". So much so that Thanksgiving is becoming my fav holiday. No stress about having to shop for 30 million people and spend money that you don't have. No expectations about what I'm getting versus what I want. And no one expects to do much more than eat good food, enjoy loved ones, sleep alittle( or alot... ) and watch some football. People have forgotten what Christmas is really about, and others are making a killing off of the new "meaning" of Christmas. I still like the holiday and try to find ways to remember what its really about, but I don't look forward to Christmas like I used to. Ok, rant over. Back to reg. scheduled programming....

we did away with all gifts about 4yrs ago and i have to say we love it . Dont have to worry about shopping or who gets what. Just have everyone over for a relaxed meal. The family was unsure about this but now will not do anything else. In a strange way it has brought us closer together..

Agreed. Time to put another quarter in the GRM jukebox. This one's got the lyrics..

And another quarter.."I Want it All Back" live. Yamane Mai sings, and Yoko pounds the keyboard:

Sorry for the hijack. I'm another one that absolutely hates the X-mess. Don't call me "Scrooge", though...I don't want to screw up anyone else's day, I just want people to stop treating me like a freak because I don't want to be bothered with it.

If I could pull that off, I'd run for president in the next election. The country...scratch that, the world needs someone who has negotiating skills like that!!

if you can figure out how to pull it off you will be rewarded in ways you could never imagine. Like actually being able to put up with your relatives and the inlaws
