The Beatles. I know, I know. "They're a culture icon" etc. I'm supposed to like them, but I don't.
I know a guy who’s a huge Beatles fan, refers to Paul Mcartney as one of the great bass players of all time.
Don’t get it.
Paul McCartney actually is one of the great bass players of all time - very melodic, very much in tune with the song itself. He’s just also one of the more insipid songwriters of all time.

Ooooh! I’ve got one! Just heard them tonight -
Kings of Leon!
I hate Caleb Followill’s voice, I hate the lyrics he sings, and I hate the melodies he sings them to. They couldn’t disappear quickly enough for me.

Look up Sturgill Simpson if you like Country music, and look up Wayne Hancock if you like Western music.
Actually; Sturgil Simpson is the one name I'd throw down here. I love classic country and the new Americana movement, but I just cant stand Sturgil.
Fair enough. Who do you like?
As People's Exhibit 1 in the case of People v KISS on a charge of excessive suckiness, I give you the ACTUAL lyrics for "Rock and Roll All Night":
You show us everything you've got
You keep on dancin' and the room gets hot
You drive us wild, we'll drive you crazy
You say you wanna go for a spin
The party's just begun, we'll let you in
You drive us wild, we'll drive you crazy
You keep on shoutin', you keep on shoutin'
I wanna rock and roll all night and party every day
I wanna rock and roll all night and party every day
You keep on saying you'll be mine for a while
You're lookin' fancy and I like your style
You drive us wild, we'll drive you crazy
You show us everything you've got
Baby, baby that's quite a lot
And you drive us wild, we'll drive you crazy
You keep on shoutin', you keep on shoutin'
I wanna rock and roll all night and party every day
I wanna rock and roll all night and party every day
I wanna rock and roll all night and party every day
I wanna rock and roll all night and party every day
I wanna rock and roll all night and party every day
I wanna rock and roll all night and party every day
I wanna rock and roll all night and party every day
I wanna rock and roll all night and party every day
I wanna rock and roll all night and party every day
The People rest, Your Honor.

berkeleying Slipknot. Takes 9 people to sound as bad as all the other bands with only 4.
Actually, most "metal" that actually gets airplay is pretty berkeleying weak garbage, but then again, everything that gets radio play is weak garbage regardless of genre. That whole "appeal to the lowest common denominator" thing.
I've been thinking a lot about this lately. Slipknot has been in a lot of the mainstream metal news, with the Tortilla man replacing Chris Fehn on percussion. I just... they're not good! I respect Insane Clown Posse more than I respect Slipknot. Couple that with all of the corporate greed level bullE36 M3 that surrounded Chris'es departure, and I am absolutely over them.
Also- Nirvana. I don't get it. Smells like teen spirit was a decent song, and the rest of it is just sludgy trash. I just...no. Same goes for Red Hot Chili Peppers. You can only make the same song for so many albums. I'll be honest, Anthony Kedis and crew were better before rehab.
Lastly... berkeley the beatles. Seriously.

Accurate, but in a strange way, I really respect icp. Where slipknot has become the mascot for appealing to the alt kids in the name of the almighty dollar, icp has always been about the fans. I've never seen a band more committed to its fanbase. I've watched several documentaries on the gathering of the juggalos and while I dont believe I could ever go to such an event, or...any icp event, they do it big for the kids that keep em in faygo all the time. They also (at least in violent js case) appear to be decent parents. Js kid is a furry , and hes flat out said, I dont get it, but I'm going to love her and support her all the same, because it's what makes her, her. Frighteningly insightful from a band that has such lines as "and I'll dip my nuts in your soup....bloop!".

ICP is a lot like gwar in that they really give a hell of a lot of E36 M3s about the fans for being "joke" bands

Mumford and Sons. All the hip kids went nuts for that stuff when I was in college.
I never thought they were that good.
Oh, yeah, berkeley them. They also spawned a bunch of rock bands using banjos that largely sucked

Nah. We're just talking E36 M3 because it's an anonymous forum. It's not like Clapton is going to be butt-hurt because I said I don't like him. He can crawl in bed with his billions of dollars and laugh at me from his London flat.

Screeching or not, I love the music. Same goes for Dylan. He can't sing to save his life, but he made some great music.

They have exactly 2 songs I can think of that I like. All of the ones they are known for annoy the hell out of me though.
Second the Beatles.
Hugely influential? sure
Some good tunes? also sure.
Worth freaking out about after 60 years? Hell no.
In reply to Duke :
Well...not to derail the thread, but...
Current artists - Jason Isbell, Brent Cobb, Derek Hoke, Chris Jacobs, The Secret Sisters, Charley Crockett, some of Paul Cauthen, Tyler Childers, and Colter Wall.
Old school - James McMurtry, John Prine, Ray Wylie Hubbard...plus the early outlaw country bunch.

Just found out about Colter Wall. Holy cow. Has he been smoking a carton a day for the past 15 years? How in the world do you get that voice?

After going through all four pages and finding some comments I agree with and some that make me question whether or not some of you actually have ears, I will add the only one I could think of that I do not believe has yet been mentioned: Fleetwood Mac, and specifically Stevie Nicks-era Fleetwood Mac. Mick Fleetwood just wanted to have a good solid blues band, then Lindsey Buckingham and Ms. Nicks come along and turn it into a horrible late-70s soft-focus fringe-and-chiffon-covered steaming pile of crap.
