Bands that everyone loves but you don't

I agree with a lot of these post. 

Whoever brought up Drake I agree. I hate his music it's so fake but his longevity is commendable the dude knows how to stay relevant. Hip Hop being my favorite genre of music,  I can easily say I dislike majority of what I hear today because that E36 M3 should be considered "trash-rap". Because, hip-hop has a message a heart and a soul. 

I think all genres have that issue. Where what you hear on the radio is really just a formula from record labels to get money vs the true love of the genre. But every once in a while some truly good music gets a chance to slip in the top 50.

I don't particularly hate any band but there are a few I have just never gotten in to. We each have our own tastes and passions and it is interesting to me how when we try to share that passion for a group/band it doesn't always go well. One of my step brothers was a rabid Kiss fan when we were teenagers and tried so hard to get me to like them, I just couldn't enjoy listening to even a few minutes of their music. I now can deal with an occasional Kiss tune but I'll never sit down and listen to an entire album.  The other group that didnt do it for me.is the Beatles. They did usher in the rock movement but the hype they got while I was a kid just seemed over the top. Again I can stand an occasional song of their's but won't be sad if it is a long time. It baffles me however that almost any time I am in a quiet room and start humming or singing a song to myself 95% of the time it is a Beatles song, maybe just because there are 10000 plays of their songs stuck in my head from the AM radio days of my youth?

I don't hate any band.  If I don't like it, I don't listen and move on.  Not sure how the public opinion is supposed to make me feel good bad or ugly.  

IMHO, it's a waste of my time using my energy to "hate" stuff that's just about opinions.

I never really liked 2Pac. 

I liked Biggie more, but not as much as everyone else seems to think I should. I always thought that Craig Mack should have been Puffy's bigger star. 

Now, Jay-Z... He deserves every bit of his success. And if I ever actually get around to a Maybach of my own, it's getting a What would Hova do? bumper sticker.

One of the unexpected things I'm learning is a pretty consistent dislike of Chicago.  Didn't see that one coming.

I personally dig them, as long as it's older; transit authority, II, that vintage.

I think it's because I have a music background, and the harmonies (particularly in the horns) really tickle my ear.

Also surprised at how few of you mentioned Steely Dan.  They seem to be polarizing.

No Doobies at all, ever. Awful.

Michael McDonald is the kiss of musical death. I only like Steely Dan right up until the moment he became involved. 

RHCP made half of a good album - Mother’s Milk - and one good album - Blood Sugar Sex Magic.  Other than that their music is mediocre at best.

I'm gonna risk sounding totally hipster and say "most popular music"  but that is coming from a background of mainly independent music.

But some of the big standouts for me are the totally coked out self indulgence of Led Zeppelin 

And the saccharine yet insipid sounds of James Taylor.

I used to think I hated Huey Lewis above all else. Turns out that was based on exposure.  No longer hearing it 3 times a day anymore and it doesn't even register with me.  I think that title now belongs to RHCP.  From their unknown early days, the first "real men don't kill coyotes" playing on 120 minutes to their current whatever, it is universally excrement.

On the list of things I should love and don't.  Patti Smith. I have never made it through "Horses" which is on every top ten list. 

Pink Floyd. Hear me out. I think the lyrics are amazing.  The music is amazing. What I dislike, I think, are Floyd fans.  No, they don't see beyond. They aren't existential. They can't read my thoughts. They are just a band.

Pink Floyd never fooled me.

Based on mathematics and percentages, Ringo is the most successful ex Beatle.

Eh, most popular things suck. Movies, music, TV (berkeleying reality shows, how braindead do you have to be to tune into watch that garbage? yet 30+ million people per week do). Comes around to the lowest common denominator I mentioned on page 1. 

I don't think it's hipster to say that. I've had that opinion since I was a kid living through the first resurgence of the Backdoor Boys and the N*Stink craze, long before Lars and StePHen(pronounced with a PH you heathen) started wearing mustache wax and tweeds with suits that show off their nautical star tattoos. 

Frankly I find it annoying that so many activities I've enjoyed forever have been taken over by the hipster "movement". I've always hated popular things and people(mostly BECAUSE of the people that made the thing popular), movies have always pissed me off, I was born with a beard and a beer glass, QUIT STEALING MY LIFE AND START PAYING ME ROYALTIES HIPSTER ASSHOLE. (why didn't it autofilter? That's strange)

Agree on Offspring as well... Older, I have to agree with the distaste for Rush and Chicago. Newer, Arcade Fire annoys me as well as that Lady Gaga/Bradley Cooper song (I guess that’s not really a band...) 

Music I never understood the cult following = Jimmy Buffett 

I like Buffett's older music, hell I even played in Buffett cover band for a few years. But the following and now the merchandising empire just...ruins it for me. I mean, I understand needing escapism, but there are goddamn Margaritaville RETIREMENT COMMUNITIES NOW.  Just, c'mon man.

I'm glad hes making bank, good for him. But give me the broke guy that road tripped to Key West with Jerry Jeff Walker in a '47 Packard in '71. THAT guy was worth listening to.

Being a metal fan, as well as a hip hop fan, I get it. I feel like a lot of the current sound cloud rappers are doing what happened right around y2k- TONS of the same nu-metal trash bands flooding the market. A few gems here and there, but most of them suck noodles and a lot of the gifted ones get lost. Hopefully it thins out the same way nu metal did.

I can see how this would happen. Offspring happen to be one of my all time favorites- but their early stuff is DEFINITELY better. I've worn out copies of both smash and ixnay, as an example. Dexter hollands voice can get extremely nasaly though, and I hate hate HATE nasally voices. Think most emo bands. So, I can understand.

I love early Chicago, pretty neutral on the rest of their stuff.

Early Steely Dan is awesome.  Can't Buy a Thrill is around here on vinyl somewhere. 

Never much cared for the Doobies.
