First, I admit I grabbed this topic from Perry Farrerll's Twitter, but he's right: If you played heavy/hard music back in the '80s, you wore long pants on stage. No shorts for you--although Jane's Addiction broke that rule. I added that Anthrax and Henry Rollins did as well. Anyone else to add to that list?
One man reigns supreme above all...
Shorts? Shorts were for prudes!
Lots of shorts once you got to "hardcore punk" which Rollins era seems right. I want to say the NY Dolls did too, but maybe it was more likely skirts.
In 1955, Augie Garcia recorded what is considered the first rock and roll record to come out of Minnesota (he opened for Elvis when he first appeared here in 1956.) He was known for wearing Bermuda shorts on stage. https://www.thecurrent.org/feature/2012/07/26/augie-garcia
More than a one hit wonder, a defining song of the 90s
In reply to John Welsh :
I dunno. Some would argue that is exactly the sort of noise that caused the inexplicable popularity of acts like Kanye today.

If you are going to blame someone it's definitely Sonic Youth's fault.
Also I think HUM is a one hit wonder, however good they were (are?)

GG Allin.
Not the 80s, but not long after.
In reply to Beer Baron :
Same band, different man in shorts.
Bon Scott
Well I hope they were cool, I assume they would wear pants if they wanted to be warm.
Lemmy loved his cut-offs.

I flew from ATL to Grand Rapids to see them a few years ago...and got a tattoo to commemorate the trip. So yeah. I like them a lot.
This performance of "I'd Like Your Hair Long" from the same 120 mins set is fkn rowdy.
They released a new record a couple years ago. It's aiiight. "Downward is Heavenward" is an absolute masterpiece IMO.
Matt Talbot is a Saab guy.
