Lotta music fans here. So, what are some bands that you really dig that more people should know about?
I'll go first. I went to school in Athens, Ga., when things were totally happening: R.E.M. signed with Warner Bros., Pylon got back together, and The B-52's came back to play a homecoming concert in the field next to my dorm.
So, three from back then that kinda of go together.
Five Eight: still around and killing it. Plus I get to work the merch table when they'll down this way. 
Roosevelt: fast, wicked tight and lots of plaid before plaid was hip. Nice guys, too.
Bliss: Kinda heavy, dark but also melodic. (All three of these also appeared on this Fuel comp--yes, with a rotary on the cover.)

Is Guster off the radar, or are they that band that you don't know of, but here their stuff in the grocery store from time to time? (I seriously loathe that, but because I enjoy it, but because I know it means I'm really old)

Bliss sounds like The Jesus Lizard
TWRP. Gimmick band, sure, but man they lay some serious disco/funk tunes. One of the most fun shows I've ever been to.
The Chats. Garage/Punk band out of Straya. Total DGAF.
Carebears on fire.
At the time they made their album they were 10-13 years old. They're on spotify though.
Listen to a lot of punk rock - so much is 'off the radar' to 99%

My 18 year old son loves both of these bands. I will say TWRP (and NSP for that matter) is pretty talented, if not a bit odd. I like it though.
Joyous Wolf is great live but nothing I've heard them record comes close. Massive energy on stage.
The Hu but I'm not sure they are off the radar anymore.

Athens, Ga.-Inside/Out came out a year or two earlier. So similar vibe. That Fuel comp totally summed up my years there.

I have a few. I'm all over the place with what I listen to, but I spend most of my listening time with various genres of Metal and 90's Alternative stuff.
Teenage Wrist
LOVE LOVE KOVE these guys. It's like all your favorite 90's Alternative band members had kids and they started a band. Seriously, they sound like they could have been on your local rock radio station circa 1996. If they had been around back then, they would be co-headlining arenas with the Foo Fighters now. Big Jimmy Eat World/Smashing Pumpkins vibes mixed with Shoegaze stuff like My Bloody Valentine. Every time I hear them, I'm brought back to all the good memories of my high school years (1996-2000). And these guys probably weren't even born yet, so it's that much more impressive!
Astronoid
A friend described them to me as "Black Metal, but with major chords and positivity" and that's pretty much what they are. Kinda like if you mixed Emperor in a blender with late 90's Pop Punk and Coheed and Cambria. Weird, yes, but some of the most beautiful sounds I've ever heard. They always put me in a good mood. Both of their full length albums are perfect front to back with no filler.
He Is Legend
Heavy Post-Hardcore with a Southern twinge. Been listening to these guys for years, and they just keep getting better. Beautifully melodic, yet heavy as BERK.
Fireball Ministry
I never hear anyone talking about these guys. They are a pure rock band with some stoner vibes mixed in, just how I like it. I remember reading an interview with Dave Grohl years ago that mentioned that he was digging these guys, so I popped them on. Been a fan ever since. Good, simple songwriting that hits all the good spots, like your favorite dish at the local diner.
Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats
Somewhere in an alternate universe, George Harrison and Paul McCartney went way down the drug addled counterculture deep end in the late 60's, broke off from The Beatles, and started a band with Tony Iommi and Bill Ward from Black Sabbath. And that band sounds EXACTLY like Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats. Sounds weird, but the results are incredible. Just listen to this. It's straight from 50 years ago in an alternate reality.
Fighting Gravity - Started in the mid 90's at Virginia Tech, never made it big and eventually gave up performing as best as I know
Hick'ry Hawkins. "Widest Trailer in the Lot" is particularly good.
I liked a group that came through my small town a few times when I was in high school. Steel Train.
Can't say if they're totally off the radar, they have stuff on iTunes and they played Letterman. I like this album and the older stuff. I think there was a lineup change? Idk.

A Wilhelm Scream
These guys are the epitome of this thread. From New Bedford, MA, they are are one of my favorite bands ever. The tightest, most PO'ed, technical Punk out there. Almost like fast Pop Punk with an angry MA-hole attitude. If you know New Bedford, you can really hear it in their music. Their first album is on the weak side, but the rest are incredible. Ruiner and its follow-up Career Suicide are 100% perfect albums. The bass playing on these two makes my brain leak out of my ear!

Dave Hause and the Mermaid - I used to play in bands with people that played in other bands with this guy and he's had quite the journey. Remember playing squatter houses in Philly with him in the mid 90s. Really like him in The Loved Ones and his solo stuff. Cool to see someone I know do something with music. It's hard.
