So I have a photobucket account and I hate it. It might be my outdated computer circa 2007 which doesn't let me have the most recent OS and internet browsers but I can not stand their website. Gmail has even stopped supporting my Safari browser. But I find photobucket's website terrible and I was wondering if you all had experience with a barebones image hoster so I can hotlink photos. Less is more in this case
A lot of times, your internet provider gives you some space for free. If so, there you go... basic image hosting. You just need to upload.
What happens when I switch providers?
Imgur. Simple, no stupid hotlinking of the picture, easy intuitive app.
another vote for Imgur …I never could make photobucket or flickr work worth a crap for me, probably has as much to do with my computer "skills" as with them, but assuming they want the masses of computer illiterate users out here to use their product, you'd think they'd make it more user friendly … yeah I know … crazy to think something like that

This. I'm not sure if they have a limit either
I use minus.com or imgur.com

Imgur or pay for your own hosting?
I am not sure what is up with Photobucket.. they keep making it harder and more complicated to use.

Yeah, they are apparently really trying to find ways to make money off of free image hosting, but are just making it worse and worse to use. I suspect they will be a victim of their own success at some point.
I'm probably one of the few that actually pay for image hosting. $25 a year to Photobucket for extra storage and bandwidth, and it works flawlessly for me. 2 clicks and I can drop an image pretty much anywhere I want.
I also like their Android app. It makes uploading images from the phone a snap. From the computer, it's just a drag and drop.
I will say, if you have slow internet service, their website will probably suck. Old computers may have the same problem. My primary computer is a newish $250 netbook that handles it just fine.
It may be that they take better care of their paying customers.

which is why I gave up on them … that plus I'm pretty much a dumb ass when it comes to a computer
Imgur is easy enough for even me to use
Cool. I may try the host your own website eventually many months from now. And Ill give Imgur a look.
Most of my problems I will readily attribute to my computer, old enough they stopped supported my browser

I've paid for a smugmug account for over 10 years. Simple, easy to use, and great customer service the very few times I've had issues.
For free, if you have a Google account, you have a decent amount of space to stuff photos, albeit loosely tied to Google+. I use that space to backup phone pics.
