Went with a big group to see hootie and the blowfish last night. Huge concert! I couldn't believe how packed the place was.

Showed up and I was pleasantly surprised to see barenaked ladies opening. Dude!

They played the favorites, but they would change a lyric here or there to be funny or pull in some local lore. They told jokes (and they were funny). They told a story about playing with STP at the same venue about a quarter century and half a decade ago, and accidentally hitting Scott Weiland with a Nerf whistling football - right in the stone temple pilot.

They encouraged us to sing along while playing if I had a million dollars. They told us it was ok if we didn't know the words, we just had to listen to what they sing and then repeat it, lol.

And finally they played some fun covers all mixed together in a big mashup. Fun.

Anyway, hats off to a very fun time!

They are a super fun group.

I saw them many years ago (sometime around the "Stunt" years) at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival.  Stratford was doing an adaptation of As You Like It and the Ladies wrote music for it.  The first week or so of performances they were part of the show.  They were on stage in costume like a Pit Orchestra.  The rest of the show run they used tracks, but what a hoot to see Barenaked Ladies playing for a Shakespeare play.

BNL is a fun show. I saw them open for the Hip at UWO before Gordon came out, again at some massive UK festival in 2000 and finally at Red Rocks with Alanis as an opener. Enjoyed every one - but I’m jealous of Curtis. They’re really good at improvising between songs.

As a complete contrast, I was at a Dave Matthews Band concert on Friday and there was basically a minute of complete dead air between songs. No attempt to engage the crowd at all. Not that they needed engaging. It could have been 90 minutes of Dave Matthews doing shadow puppets and making spaceship noises and they would have eaten it up.

I'm pretty sure I would pay to see that.

I popped in here to mention this.  It was probably my favorite production at Stratford, and I've seen a bunch (even though it was pre-recorded tracks when I saw the play).  I still have that soundtrack CD somewhere.

If you go to see them, odds are, it'll be alright.

It's too bad that they had the break up with Steven Page. They were a better band with him out front.

I was at that same show Saturday nite. Great show by both groups. Only bad part was when Rucker stopped singing to kick a fan out, otherwise just a blast. On a side note, was kind of fun singing along with the crowd on the way  of the amphitheater to Country Roads.

Yeah, they still put out good music and live shows, but covering Steve's parts on the hits live is rough.

They have BNL kids songs on prime music (well they used to, its been a long time since i checked) they are very good. Upbeat and funny. They have an alphabet song that is pretty hilarious.
