Well, not really...![](/media/img/icons/smilies/wink-18.png)
There's an old railroad roundhouse about a mile from here. It's a place we all (mis)spent alot of our youth, although I haven't been out there for close to 30-years. The guy who owns it now is cleaning out all the junk his father had accumulated there over the years & I went out to buy a steel staircase for the outside of the building I bought last fall.
I spent over an hour just roaming around the property(31-acres & nearly one mile long), and especially inside the roundhouse building. Despite the fact the RR abandoned it in the 1940's, and it hasn't been maintained at all since the late 60's, it's still a surprisingly strong structure - one that's filled with some cool old junk, and this unbelievably amazing, yet creepy, patina to everything.
FWIW, the old Ford truck is for-sale for whatever anyone would give for it.

I'm assuming this is the place? If so that looks like a sweet building.
Your pictures remind me of some of the stuff you see people take of Old Cold war stuff. It'd be cool to take some Hi-res creative shots with a nice camera before they get all that cleaned up. What's going to happen to the roundhouse?
Yeah, I wish I'd had a better camera.
For now, he's not selling the property, but even if he does, I think it will continue to stand for another 100-years, judging by how little it's deteriorated in the ~30-years since I was last out there.
once upon a time, they built stuff to last.
There is an old classworks near me.. half the kilns have collapsed, but the rest are pretty damn sturdy looking still.. and the cement that was under the warehouse contains a LOT of small passages that are always fun to explore

Yeah, that's it on the map. There aren't any roads that lead anywhere near the property anymore, just the private drive that follows the tracks & is gated, so it really surprises me that county zoning would sue him over the stuff out there. It's not like he's running a junkyard out of the place.
I like the Aerosmith reference on the truck door.
more pictures of said truck?
Can't see the pics at work. Can't wait to get home and check them out. I do environmental site assessments and get to visit some pretty neat places. Plus I love train stuff. Let me tell you, railroad companies weren't good stewards of the earth back then.
That site is begging for an airstrip on it.
Under the weeds, it's all crushed cinder. It's begging for a rally-cross!
I only have one other pic of the truck right now, but I took another one I'll try to upload later.
