I have seen this happen several times lately. That burning torch can start some nasty stuff.

This is a half block from my favorite sleazy bar. (Southport Raw Bar)
Safety reminders: always pertinent.
Also, surfboard on fire truck at 0:54?

Sure looks that way. I presume they are handy for fishing non responsive bodies out of water.
Sounds like insurance fraud.

Explain? The building was being demolished anyway.
On a related subject, I once accidentally started a brush fire with sparks from a grinding wheel at my mothers farm. I was able to extinguish it, but it was really frightening how fast it started and spread.
while torching a cradle bolt out of a mn12 t bird i unknowingly caught the tire on fire. it exploded right next to my head and i couldn't hear for 3 days.
I went to a shop fire that was started when a guy was removing a gas tank and knocked his drop light to the floor. The bulb shattered and the place burned to the ground.
i learned something from that article: if you want to burn down a gas station, start a fire in the car wash..
Guess there is less to demolish now

News report refers to a "blow torch". When was the last time you saw an actual blow torch? Has to be at least 20 years for me.
I probably should not admit to accidentally setting my shop coat on fire, every year, in front of my students....
.... The good kids at least let me know it's burning.

That's funny. My father-in-law worked for GM's Fisher Body for 30+ years punching out floor pans and other body parts. He still calls them floor boards.
I like to point out they haven't been boards for.....

Whenever I smoke my meth next to my keg of gunpowder.

A San Mateo County man who started a fire by smoking meth with a blowtorch near a container of gunpowder has been sentenced to 45 days in jail.
John Blanchard, 65, pleaded no contest Monday in San Mateo County Superior Court to drugs and weapons violations.
On Oct. 1, deputies were called to a fire in a storage yard in the unincorporated community of Princeton near the Half Moon Bay Airport. They found Blanchard standing outside a camper that he had parked there illegally, sheriff’s Lt. Ray Lunny said.
Investigators determined that the fire on the 200 block of Yale Avenue had been started by a defective propane blowtorch that Blanchard had been using to smoke methamphetamine, Lunny said.
Blanchard left the blowtorch on a dryer, causing a nearby container of gunpowder to explode, said District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe.
Besides the blowtorch, deputies found a loaded rifle, ammunition, a container of black powder and an unopened safe containing more than 300 feet of detonation cord, Lunny said.
Blanchard, who has a previous drug conviction, was also placed on three years of probation by Judge Lisa Novak.
