I searched and all I came up with was a list of beer baron's posts.

Those that drink, what is your libation of choice? Any really good localy brewed creations?

My "Daily Driver" beer right now is 21st Amendment "Brew Free or Die." Good chit.

Rainier/PBR/Oly compromise about 70% of my beer drinking.
The other 30% is comprised of high brow (high brau, zing!) stouts
Yes, I realize how little sense that makes.

Firestone Walker's Velvet Merlin is my favorite though, just too bad it's seasonal.

Oh my yes- beer. Keep in mind 99% of what I drink is local, so YMMV.

Grain Belt Nordeast- When i'm in the mood to drink a lot of beer (not have one or two, but more like 6-floor) This is my jam. Inoffensive enough to be "sessionable" as beer snobs like to say, cheap as a macro because it is, but still tasty. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/417/57402

I recently took down a bottle of Surly Darkness. It's a Russian Imperial... and it is the most amazing thing ever. I cannot accurately describe just how good this is. If you want a beer that eats like a meal- this is for you. One bomber was all I needed, and even sharing it, I was quite pleased with the buzz after. Made swearing at the MINI that much easier. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/13014/33127

I've also recently taken down a bottle of Flat Earth Brewery's Mummy Train- it's a pumpkin spiced ale. I know they sound weird and gimmicky, but it was REALLY good, and took the edge off a MN winter evening. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/15642/53293

Past favorites have included Sam Smiths Oatmeal Stout, their Organic Chocolate Stout (no longer produced, you need to buy some if you find it), Dragons Milk, Sierra Nevada Bigfoot Barlywine Ale, and so on down the line. I tend to like to fight my beer.

I'm partial to stouts and particularly used (wine or whiskey) barrel-aged stouts when I can find them.

Absolute favorite: Old Engine Oil from Harviestoun (Scotland) along with their special editions.

More locally, I really like Brooklyn Brewery's Black Chocolate Stout. I buy that by the case and then pack some away for "aging".

There's a new micro brewery about mile from my house - Neshaminy Creek Brewing - but sadly I'm not very fond of anything they make yet. Everything they make tends to be on the hoppy/IPA side and I've yet to try an IPA that I like.

Also local: Weyerbacher (Easton, PA) makes some pretty interesting stuff. Some of it is brutal on the ABV, though...

Mass produced: Most Sam Adams products are OK for me, except for the Nobel Pils. Didn't like that much at all. I buy Cherry Wheat during the warm months as my "cheap beer" when I want something and don't want to think about it. The Cream Stout for the cooler months. Both are reasonable on the ABV as well.

I'm fortunate to have a couple of by-the-bottle places near me so I'm always looking for and trying different things. However, it's pretty easy for me to drop almost $100 on a case of beer doing that.

Agreed on the IPA thing. Hops must be cheap, because a lot of the micros around me hop the everloving E36 M3 out of everything.

The best stout I have enjoyed recently was Left Hand Brewing co's Nitro Milk Stout. I think Dragons Milk has taken a recent downturn in quality.

If you're interested in what's available nationally, I would say Dilirium Noel this time of year.

Yeah, I like hops as much as anyone but it seems to be the easy and lazy way to be "crafty".

I'm a huge fan of a good saison though.

I just bought a 6-pack of Nitro Milk Stout on recommendation from one of my biking buddies. Definitely good stuff.

I have a few Innis & Gunn variations as well.

It's funny... I really have little desire to home-brew. Sampling others' home-brew, however, I'm all for that.

That's the bourbon casked version of my favorite stout, should be relevant to your interests if you can find some

I've yet to meet an IPA I've liked, maybe I'm just sensitive to it or something, I really don't like beer with any strong, prominent hoppy/bitter note to it.

My cheap inoffensive beer of choice is PBR. Though the Trader Joe's "Simpler Times" lager and pilsner is even cheaper ($3.50/6) and I think both are a little better than PBR, good enough I usually don't drink it from the can. I need to find/try their Stockyard stout, the location nearest to me didn't have any the last time I was there.

I need to explore stouts more.

Too many to list. Depends on price point; if you're looking for something fancy and boutique, or easily found in packs.

Winter seasonals, my favorite is Firestone Walker Velvet Merlin. Best regular-strength stout I have ever had.

All-time favorite: Trippel Karmeliet
All-around value favorite: North Coast PranQster
Best I've ever had: Deus
Around this time of year: Maudite

Saison is my very favorite style. Favorites in that are really hard to pick. Probably Fantome or Saison D'Erpe Mert. DuPont and La Merle also score high as well. Fantome de Noel is one of the very best "holiday" beers I've had, too.

In reply to patgizz:

90 minute ipa is fantasitc. I have a couple bottles of 120 aging also.

Went beer shopping and picked up a growler of Rogue Dead Guy ale and a bottle of Firestone 17th anniversary ale.

Best beer I have ever tried has been Firestone Walker's Parabola.

I'm just really excited about cooler weather here finally. Its hard to enjoy a stout when its hot out.

My "maintenance" beer is good ol' Sierra Nevada Pale. I keep Oakshire beers in my kegerator. It is set up for cornys so I always have Frogswort and the other tap rotates between IPAs in the summer and their delicious winter ales. The Fall "Ill tempered gnome" just ran out. I am eagerly anticipating O'dark thirty, their black IPA

I too think IPA's are done to death and I would like to see the other basics get some respect.I quite like ESBs and ambers but no one is doing them. A traditional english style IPA is another lost art.

I really have no palette for belgian beers. Just not my jam but tastes change and I am sure someday I will love them.

In my youth I hated all hoppy beers and all I drank were porters, stouts, ambers and browns. Now stouts are special occasion things.

My fave cheap beers are Genesee, Genesee Cream Ale, and Old German lager.

My fave local craft brews are Pyramid Apricot Ale, and Portland Brewing Co. Zig Zag Lager.

I live in the Land of Ninkasi, but I'll be damned if I spend $6.95 on a bottle of beer.

Yep. Eugene by choice. Actually just a bit west, about a mile from the OCF grounds. Moved here when i found out I was going to be a dad, and LA (Ventura County) is nowhere to raise kids. 20 years later and my kid is in college on grant money. I doubt I would have been so lucky in Cali.

Back on topic: I learned to appreciate Genesee's while working on my uncle's farm in the NY Finger Lakes region... fondly remembered it thirty years, then found it here way outside the brewery's 250 mile radius limit, on the cheap at Amazon Market on W11th. Its an old school micro brew that has survived all these years.
