This could be fun. I'm thinking train horn pointed right at their face for permanent hearing damage.
Tie this to my earlier "Air Ride" idea and it could be awesome.
EDIT: And cover the whole bottom in bear traps FTMFW!
How about all those solutions, plus driving 4-5" nails through the bottom of the floor?
SWEET! Skip the bear traps and just go with all spikes. Longer ones to the outside so it makes a prison first, then slowly lowers. The Iron Maiden security system.

I hope a very prolonged and painful death finds the offender soon.
If it was meth heads, then a prolonged and painful death is pretty much assured.

find said meth heads, and offer them a "new and improved" version of the meth they love so much...
See krokodil thread from a few weeks back...

Couple of speed humps at 30 mph should remove any large pieces
How about hanging a tazer under it with a pressure switch?
Something else you might try: hang a 'game camera' outside. Those things have bright flash and will scare off pretty much anyone, plus you'd have a photo record of the date/time etc. Wally World has one online for about $65.

Buy a bear trap, bury in snow, park over it with new cat installed, wait. Or weld some very hard materials to the new cat/pipe.
I think that there could be some legal issues with this one. Mainly involving children. don't get me wrong, I like where your head is at.
Just put up a bigass warning sign!
Better idea, setup silent alarm, keep chainsaw in bedroom. Nothing is more pants crappingly terrifying than a deranged man in a bathrobe coming at you with a running chainsaw.

They stole your cat using a battery-powered sawsall? I thought that I had heard it all. Wow. I hope they inhale some toxic sawdust and die a slow painful death.
They've been known to hit dealerships. Get 50-60 cats in one night.
The parking lot at the apartment building next to the local POLICE STATION has been hit twice in the past three years. Now that's balls.
Wonder if you could use something like a 12V solenoid connected to a magnetto. If you trip the solenoid it starts spinning the magnetto and snap crackle pop.
Darwin will catch up with him sooner or later. Our local MENSA chapter lost a member last year when a Taurus fell off the hastily (and poorly) placed trunk jack and trapped said cat cutter and his battery powered sawzall underneath.

I also like the huge steel beams they have on cars over there that fly out and break legs.

Those are only equipped on british vehicles. And it's not a beam, it's bits of the frame falling off.

Traps are illegal in Texas but I know of "reliable intelligence" that a guy has made pepper spray traps for under his vehicle. No more catalytic converter thefts, but there have reportedly been pepper sprayed coons and cats seen in the neighborhood.
I fail to see a down-side to this arrangement.

I'd buy that for a dollar.
Sorry to hear it, Swank. They hit my best ex-girlfriend two years ago. Park & Ride for the mass-transit (such as it is in Atl.). Fifteen vehicles, all pickups or SUVs in broad daylight. They were eventually caught, one of them was a little guy who could get under trucks without having to use a jack.

Catalytic converter? I've seen those before. They make great ferret play tubes, though you have to wash the ferrets after.

I could easily see that happening. One guy underneath with a cordless saw-zall and a second guy to be a spotter.

Yes. You can. You can also use a coil wired to the battery with a large capacitor so it will fire once when someone touches the vehicle then charge back up for the next touch over a second or so. That keeps a dead cat from killing your battery over night.
I had the one stolen off of my saab while it was being transported to me. Sadly, they cut the end off of the downpipe to do it. Finding a turbodownpipe for an 87 saab has been very frustrating
