My brother in law brought these over, was cleaning out his parents pantry. I'm not quite sure why he looked at expired knockoff E36 M3ty hot chocolate-ish mixes and thought, this is for my sister and mtn! But nonetheless, he did.
Think they're still good?

I'd bet they're good. The date on most dry things is usually the packaging failure

Well let's give it a try. Using milk to give it the best chance.
I've had food poisoning. The way I look at it is: was this worth the couple of bucks/cents?
The answer is always no
Ehhh.... it's alright. Which is all that it ever was in the first place, so I'm calling it still good!
I've improved it! I know, I know, you're all humbled by my genius.
This thread brought to you by Kahlua. Kahlua: Awaken the spirit!
My inlaws, who cleaned out his parents place, have cake mix with a promo contest for the 1996 Atlanta olympics in their cabinets. I will not eat cake she's made out of fear she's feeding me cake mix from when i was in high school
I look it like I'm in The Road. Canned stuff lasts a long time. same with dry stuff. My Mother perpetually has stuff waaay out of date hanging around. Float those eggs, smell everything. Pasta sauce in the fridge? If it's not moldy, it's good. Hot Dogs? They never go bad. Moldy cheese? Cut the Mold off your mold. Bonus points for growing up poor. Also, compare to fast food.
You guys are lightweights. We're still baking with this.
when it gets too lumpy, we'll start on this one.
Think I'm kidding?
These are all good.
The 2019 buttermilk's starting to separate. I'll probably pitch it. Maybe.

Best post in the thread, although the experienced dairy shown by Floating Doc deserves honorable mention.
My parents were frugal when we were growing up, so if food wasn't obviously spoiled, we ate it. I survived.
Dates on dry and canned goods are pretty much irrelevant. They are there for an approximate food quality guide and have nothing to do with food safety.
Recently, I nearly baked a key lime pie with sweetened condensed milk that was several years past the date on the can. What prompted me to pitch it was the unappealing brown color vs. the creamy color it was supposed to have. I'm sure the pie would have been fine, if not pretty.
I am often surprised by the dates on some of the lesser-used sauces and stuff in the refrigerator door. Time flies!

Remind me not to eat at your house.
I need to see a venn diagram of the people that will spend $5k on a turbo kit to make a 90 hp car into a 120 hp car, and the people that won't throw away expired dairy products because its wasteful.

I was wondering who was going to be first to post this. Winner, winner, chicken dinner!

Great Value?
That crap wasn't any good when it was put in the packet.
Buttermilk really doesn't go bad, in fact, I think it gets better for baking (and pancakes) after it has aged for a bit.
And I've thrown out 30 year old canned corned beef. Canned food does go bad.

It is indistinguishable from the Swiss Miss work provided for free. But your statement still stands.

Yes. I am definately a cheap SOB but I did just drop a ton of money on an Exhaust for my Cayman just so it sounds better.

Blue cheese
Don't get me wrong, some expiration dates are stupid.....like on salt.
Salt is a rock, it's a million years already, it's not gonna go bad in six months
I found suppositories for my wife's grandmother who had long since passed in the back of my in-laws fridge once. I think the date on the suppositories was over 20 years old.
Now THERE'S a dare!

Lightweights.
Also made in, and bought in Mexico. We just finished one from 2009. We’re terrible for this. It’s only two of us in the house now and we don’t eat like we used to.
I work in a plant that was built in 1948 and I don't think they like to throw anything out. Off the maintenance shop is a first aid room with a bathroom and they're both full of old stuff. There's a pack of Tampax in the cupboard with a coupon from 1986. Fortunately they're .... (you finish the sentence)

Try this sometime:
Himalayan sea salt. 250 million years old. Use by 2022.
