I find each murder calls for it's own unique song. Most recently it was Rage Against The Machine's Killing in the name of...

Surprised this wasn't on the first page.

I remember seeing a clip of KRS-One discussing how this was the single most "gangsta" lyric ever written.

Well this is an odd topic, but here goes. I'm going to steer clear of death metal because is basically the same as horror movies. So over the top that it loses all effect. Their cartoon violence cannot hold a candle to the horrors actual people are capable of inflicting upon one another so here's my off the cuff collection of best murder songs.

Leading the way in human Depravity is Ramms+ein's Spring and Mein Teil Both based on real events. While not based on a single event Teir Tells a story that should simultaneously happen more often and less often.

Svbway to Sally's Arme Ellen Schmitt is an adaptation of a classic murder ballad of the 1894 murder of poor ellen smith and her murderer's execution.

Tristana's Evenfall is a beautiful story of a crime of passion and subsequent regret.

The night that the lights went out in georgia There is just an unexpected amount of darkness here.

And something lighter to send you off with. Knorkator's Alter Mann

True that. Lately I have been listening to a lot of Keith Morris. I'd place both of these under the "revenge song" heading. Still worthy tunes. (Warning: One has dirty words in it.)

I had the fortune of seeing this man perform this song live. Definitely haunting and paints a vivid picture. It (his version of it) has stuck with me for many years.

And if we're talking metal, gotta include this one, even if it's an instrumental:

I have seen them perform it live--from the front row, even. It's brutal.

Bohemian Rhapsody is definitely #1.

Hmm... It's a tough call between Folsom Prison Blues and Cocaine Blues for #2, but Johnny Cash definitely gets that nod.

Maybe drifting off topic, but I've always wondered about this. If the protagonist shot a man in Reno, Nevada, why is he in a California State Prison??

I listened to Bazooka Joe last weekend. I also suggest MDC's I remember.

Country, cheating, diesel, gears...

Garth Brooks - "Papa Loved Mama"

That old diesel engine made an eerie sound
When Papa fired it up and headed into town

Well, the picture in the paper showed the scene real well
Papa's rig was buried in the local motel
The desk clerk said he saw it all real clear
He never hit the brakes and he was shifting gears

More cheatin' & murder from Garth Brooks, "The Thunder Rolls"

She runs back down the hallway
To the bedroom door
She reaches for the pistol
Kept in the dresser drawer
Tells the lady in the mirror
He won't do this again
Cause tonight will be the last time
She'll wonder where he's been

Probably extradited for a more heinous previous crime in California that was too gruesome to sing about

damnit... every time I see the title of this thread, I get Murder stuck in my head... Not that I mind it too much. There are worse songs...

Some of them standing, some were waiting in the line
As if there was something that they thought they might find
Taking some strength from the feelings that always were shared
And in the background, the eyes that just stared

What was it brought you out here in the dark?
Was it your only way of making your mark
Did you get rid of all the voices in your head?
Do you now miss them and the things that they said?

On your own admission you raised up the knife
And you brought it down ending another man's life
When it was done you just threw down the blade
While the red blood spread wider like the anger you made

I don't want this anger that's burning in me
It's something from which it's so hard to be free
But none of the tears that we cry in sorrow or rage
Can make any difference, or turn back the page

Neko Case has quite a few country murder ballads but my favorite is her song Make Your Bed.

Did you come here to meet him my dear?
Are you surprised to find only me?
Well I put him to rest at the bend in the river.
And the same I'll require of thee.

make your bed the river, young girl.
Make your bed the river young girl.
I know you can't swim
But I'll tuck you in.
Make your bed the river young girl.

I'm sick with disease in my madness -
Only one thought pacifies me.
That the murky black water
Ground your bones into sand
When the catfish strip off your hide.

So go down as his trembling bride.
And you quell all hell's fury inside me.
And if there's a chance that the Lord recognize you
Pray he has more mercy than I.

Basically, don't berkeley with Neko.
