I figured some of you on here must be into riding bikes. I need a recommendation for a headlight and taillight for a bicycle. LED. and here are the two kickers: rechargable and in the $30 dollar range or less.
I go out biking but its not for hours and hours and hours so as long as it holds a decent charge it should be ok.
I already thought of a DIY approach but unless its stupid simple I just want plug and play this time.
Whats out there =)
I started with these Blackburn 2'Fer lights. They're $24.99/pair. They're USB rechargeable, last a while, and can operate as white or red (both solid and flashing). For a taillight, it's great. In fact, I'll run one at dusk, too. When I go out for a late-night walk, I'll carry one.
For a headlight, it just wasn't enough light so I picked up a Blackburn Central 200. Price is $39.99. It's rechargeable and I have been very happy with it, too.
Oh, a PS. I now have two pars of the 2'Fer lights. All of my Blackburn lamps use the same charing cord, so that's convenient. I just plug them in when I return.
I'm the wrong person to ask... I run a Lupine Piko.
750 lumens of fun, in a 180gram package.
$30 each, or for the pair?
I use a Magicshine headlight. If you search amazon or ebay, you'll find a bunch of knockoffs that are close to $30. Its insanely bright.
I have this tail light, except with a red lens. Also awesome.
I need to pick up a pair of the lights David recommended and somehow attach them to my arm band for night running.

I got one like This one for my grandfather's walker. It's gonna be considerably brighter than everything bike light... Really anything that has at least x3 cree xm-l t6 LEDs will work great and be within budget.
Ive used single XML LED lights in a tube style light mounted with two worm drive hose clamps to mount them to the bars. One clamp on the light and one laced through on the handle bars or seat post.
The down side is the battery packs have wimpy lith ion batteries. So don't expect 1000 recharges, or them to have as long of a burn time while in use. (You can make you own packs to replace them)
I built my own years ago. Used two black metal track lights for the housings, 75watt LEDs, one in narrow, one in flood with individual switches so I can ran one, the other, both, or none, and while the LEDs are 12v, I am overpowering them at 13.5v. If I do not aim them properly, I can make cars flash their lights at me.
Probably cost more than $39, but at the time I built them (8 years ago?) there were not many choices and even today, they are longer lasting and brighter than all of the commercial set ups I have seen
