Ehh, I'd rather attend a Street Car Takeover in a local city....the fast guys usually prowl the streets at night, attend the dyno/show/track events during the days, and it's a far bigger inflow of money than a roving TV show.
Steve, you should bring the Challenge MG to SCT INDY May 6-7th next year.....astonish some high dollar stuff with grassroots. ;)
I have been to so many boring trade shows in my career, I really need to work for someone who goes to PRI and SEMA!

Pretty much everything is either there, the book of faces, or through the 1320 guys. http://www.streetcar-takeover.com/

I do get the bigger picture, advertising can't happen because as soon one of these clowns inspires some kid to street race and they kill someone, all they have to say is "I saw it on..." and civil lawsuit city. Tourism is non-existent in this. Pinks was a better one for that. Given they now have ambulances and the such I am sure the cops are closing the roads down which can be done for a fee and a permit. So in the end we are back to it is all pretend.
There is a huge street drags scene in New Orleans. Cops are paid off and they do it away from the general populace. Given New Orleans has turned into Hollywood South, and Jindal is giving away money to film there. I am sure it will be just as big as BS as it is in the current show. Streets shut down ect so they can film.

I have been twice as a SEMA intern. I got to watch the incident that caused them to put in a dress code for the booth babes.
So worth it.
The biggest thing to come out of this show is No Prep Drag Racing. The idea that a strip is a s close to the street s possible, but with all the other safety in place. There are no prep nights springing up all over the country. I think it might actually benefit the drag community, as those tough guys saying the street is "real" have no excuses not to come to the track.
Way late to the party on this one.
First off, I'm glad no one was killed, is the guy who's injuries were 'unknown' at the start of this doing OK now?
Second. I'd never heard of this show until this thread. Let me get this right. The premise of the show is racing on closed streets (legal) but pretending to be an illegal street racing 'reality' show? Really? I hope that once some jackass in Daddy's ZR1, Shelby, SS whatever kills some poor innocent bystander at a real illegal street race they claim they were influenced by this show and the family of the deceived sue Discovery channel for billions. I can’t' imagine anything more irresponsible. Portraying illegal activity in a movie or drama show, but glorifying it and promoting it in a reality show is unbelievably irresponsible.
I'm not saying I never did something stupid as a kid or that I don't break the speed limits, but I never street raced and promoting street racing in sub 10 second cars just doesn't compute. I can't believe this got past the corporate lawyers to start, let alone do several seasons.
^^ I'm with you Adrian,
Although this show may be entertaining (I've only caught bits and pieces) any show glorifying illegal street racing is dumb. Did I do it as a kid....yes, sure. Was it stupid and dangerous? Absolutely. Did I put others in danger? Yes. Was that a mistake that still bothers me? Yes, yes it does.
Street racing will always happen as long as there are cars. Innocent people get hit and killed in the crossfire all the time. Do we need to encourage this sort of thing so more kids / adults will hit the streets wanting to be the next "Crow"?
Take it to the track.....that's where the real men race. Street racing is for those scared not to have excuses about why they lost--- or those trying to cash in on reality T.V.
Well, the airing of the show finally caught up. Watching it tonight and I have to say, that was a really nasty crash. Barrel rolls followed by endos. Ugly.
Hear about these idiots crashing left and right and don't feel bad for the driver's one bit. I feel bad for the cars, but certainly not the owners. There's enough E36 M3 to go wrong when you are on a fully-prepped dragstrip with all the safety equipment, why add even more chance for error/injury/death?
Not to mention, in any interview I've heard, they have come off as total morons. First of all, they talk about their "street cars" but never actually, ya know, drive them on the street. They were harping on Larry Larson, who actually drove America's fastest street car on the street as his daily driver and has won Drag Week an unprecedented 6 times. They are making comments about how "everyone hates Larry Larson" when he's actually pretty well-liked and respected at that event, because he's a stand-up guy who does stuff like wrenches on his closest competition's cars and lends people spare parts that he may need so that they can race him and possibly beat him. They also went on and on about how the plastic/composite-bodied cars were stupid and "not a street car" when Tom Bailey built Project Sick Seconds, which used a fairly stock-appearing carbon fiber body, and won Drag Week with it, and then they all start going out building plastic-bodied Pro Mod cars with radically altered lines. Uh okay.
Is anyone really surprised at how often they wreck? The roads are narrower than any drag strip, supposedly no prep on the roads, and most of the drivers use the classic one hand on the top of the steering wheel driving position.
Yes Goliath is back V2.0 and almost crashed
The CrowMod has replaced the Crow
And Ky Kelly crashed 4 mos ago
Derek crashed too in May
I came across a large street race a few years ago. Held on a 2 lane road in deep south Dade county. A few 11 second cars, a lot of Hondas, etc. It was terrifying. Idiots right on the side of the road, no sense of safety at all. High speed just feet away from spectators. I left in 10 minutes. At that time there was a very legal strip a few miles away with full safety staff, police presence, and a comfortable place. A much better place to race.
The funniest part in the rants above about crashes is the fact that cheif was the only one too wreck on the street.
Daddy dave, tina, derek, and andrade all wrecked on a track. Its possible anywere and an unprepped track is actually a worse surface then a virgin road. The track surface is greasy when not glued.
