Looks like someone is aching for some more Patio space.
I'm not so sure the misidentification aspect is the part that scares me the most, it's their ability to identify, track & ultimately (a small step or 2 down the line) control you.
And as a tie in to the Bachelor Party thread, know about your misdeeds. People sometimes need a little me time without any fear of repercussions.
I've done stupid things in my life and I'd like to think I've learned from them and outgrown them, but if they are forever inextricably linked to me then I'd never be able to get away from them.

i know im late to the pie party but...
its very simple. How long you you think its going to be before insurance companies start using this information to deny claims? "Oh Im sorry, we have data showing that you went out drinking every weekend for 4 years. We aren't going to cover your liver transplant."

And that's just the tip of the iceberg as to different ways the info can be used. The scary thing is that is only step 2 in the process and once you go to step 3 or even 4 the possibilities are mind blowing. The government never gives back rights once they take them.
At least not without a revolution.
DRONE!

I am actually ok with that. You make bad choices. You should be made accountable. Weigh 400lbs? I'm ok with denying claims there as well.
I'd also rather have squids who don't wear helmets on motorcycles die quicker instead of wearing a helmet and being on life support( and therefore Medicare/Medicaid) for a long time.
I may be a crazy liberal, as you guys see it, but I'm all for helping those who cannot help themselves and not those who won't help themselves.
dculberson wrote: The problem with a national biometrics database is the overlap. Multiple people will match on a given sample. Even the standard DNA test (it is not thorough) is a "one in a million" match which means 300 people in this country could match on the test.
DNA testing is not one in a million, using current methods it is one in several BILLION. Additionally have a cross check with facial markers and a general description can bring that number up just a "small" amount.
The US has no real infrastructure to track people by face let alone the software/servers. Plus facial recognition unlike DNA or fingerprints are highly inaccurate and unreliable on a large scale. It's not like we are in Britain a small landmass with massively centralized people.
Now on a small defined sample set its much better.
I would love a simple facial map tied to my SS card that people had to use to access my credit report, or even us my debt cards at a ATM. Or paying/receiving my tax bills. I would gladly give a thumb print as well for these purposes, things that can be automated and checked quickly.

Might cut down on identity theft.

okay so what about red meat? red meat is not as healthy for you as broccoli so therefore if you eat a steak instead of broccoli, health insurance companies can deny your claim 20 years down the road. thats where we are heading with this sort of information collection.
I don't like being told what to do, eat, drink, etc. and sometimes, E36 M3 just happens. I might be out walking home from a bar one night, drunk as a skunk, and a car hops the curb and runs over me causing injuries. but according to my biometric tracking, I had been out drinking and therefore the accident was my fault. Claim denied.
sound like fun to you?

And I don't like paying for your insulin while you are on disability for being too fat to work.

I don't like you being able to look up his ID to see if he needs insulin and is too fat to work.

Don't need to look anything up, just need to look at him.
I think Iggy just likes to argue. Doesn't matter what side, just as long as it gets under most peoples skin possible.

And that's why I'm a damn good boss. Currently 140 people work for me and they love me.
But I am damn serious about not paying for people's bad choices. I effing hate it.
The hard part is designing systems and incentives that don't eliminate help for those who need it while weeding out the " I didn't know 3 big gulps and two fried chickens wasn't a healthy lunch" people.

It depends on the type of test used. Also, the 1 in a billion match assumes unrelated people - given that we are all in the same country a lot of us have common ancestors. With technician error and monozygotic twins taken into account there are some tests that are as bad as 1 in 1000. Again they do not do a full genome sequencing, just a quick and dirty look at a specific set of genes.

Like too much caffeine?
This one is already on the radar. Your vice(s) will be on the list eventually.

Actually drinking 4-6 cups of coffee a day has been proven to be healthy. Don't really drink and don't smoke also don't eat crap.
I do like crappy horror movies. Is that a vice?

Well I don't like them they cause copy cat violence so, yes.
See my point.

Too easy. Have a nice night.
Where is my pie? I like peanut butter.
Sounds better than what they did at Ellis Island......if you even showed symptoms of illness they either made you stay there or shipped you back to wherever you came from...
And boy would I love some pie about now.

The solution here is to fix the disability program, not to make it illegal to eat a sub-optimal diet.
