In an aside, I recall him saying in an interview that when GM made the EV1 back in the late '80s early '90s, the public wasn't interested and instead the SUV craze started.
What power does his job title really have? I can't name one thing that Roy Lahood, or whatever his predessors name was, did as secretary.
THIS is interesting...
"Secretary Lutz also announced plans to launch a billion dollar grant program to fund public-use motorsport facilities. Mr. Lutz said, “Americans need to go fast. Horsepower is a drug. It doesn’t matter how many signs or fines you throw at ’em, drivers find a way to get it out of their system. Unfortunately, street racing takes millions of lives every year. For that reason I am creating the ‘Right to Race’ program.”
Give the man who single-handedly drove GM into the ground a lofty position in government? Sounds peachy! And all too sadly appropriate.
Okay, wait. I read this on Hooniverse, but it's no where else. It's not April Fools Day, is it? Here's the link. The article sounds too good to be true, and some of the comments sound like it's a joke, but I can't find in the article anything to identify it as a joke. I'm confused.

This is all hypothetical, correct? I highly doubt that the government would be able to put someone new in the role less than 24 hours after the current guy announced his resignation. Especially since LaHood said he'd stay on until his successor was confirmed.
The hooniverse article is pretty clearly a joke to me.
Now what do I have to say on the topic? Nothing, I'll just leave you with the phrase "revolving door" and a link...

I'm sorry did I miss somehing? Was GM a flourishing world class car builder with no problems before they hired him?
He actually had a big hand in the development of the new generation of GM vehicles that are a huge leap forward from what they were producing. People forget that there is a lag between concept and production.
Like Pontiac my excitement is over
Most likely the new person will hate cars and dream of a day when we will all ride in solar powered cardboard.
Or bicycles which is the same fate.

Me too! I'd really like to see some leadership in getting dedicated bike lanes built, particularly in urban areas. A little driver education wouldn't hurt either.
Also note that he is also on the board of directors for VIA motors which makes super hybrids from GM trucks/vans for commercial use.

Hey guys I am sorry I forgot to a notice on my post that I was joking. Sorry for being unclear......
Thing is, Lutz is busy with this startup right now.

Here's my take on GM. They were hurting a bit sure, but so was Ford at the time. They had made huge strides before the bailout in terms of offerings and quality, but they saw a chance for easy money and went for it. They could have done what Ford did and been fine. A lot of their issues were on paper as they were unloading assets, some were real, but most could have been overcome without the resort of federal dollars. Lutz actually did some good things at GM, but most of it is gone into the trashbin given everything that went on afterwards.
