The second thing I gotta wonder is......are revolvers going out of fashion? Will I be able to pick up old smiths for pennies soon? Please say thats true.

As a collector of Smith revolvers, my advice is not to hold your breath...  While the market in general has softened a bit over the last year, older (pre-1970) Smiths have continued to appreciate.  I'm sure the time will come, but like musclecars and hot rods, there will always be someone interested.

Gratuitous pic of 'old Smiths'...

Nice!

I regret not buying up every old model 10 for $100-ish and a sweet 38-44 for 350 not so long ago.

But at the time I liked rugers and I wanted horsepower

Your first problem is your source is Reddit. Now I want to go read that thread. Sounds like it could be entertaining.

I can not speak about revolvers. I have never been good with them.

Agreed on the source, and I can't find it again. It was a suggested group post and I don't know which one sadly.

Got out with a buddy and our 308s today. I'm still working up a load with these 150gr Sierra game kings. I've got as good as it's getting with charge, now I need to play with length. It's holding about 2moa which isnt good enough. The hornady fmjbt stuff flies better and is .015 shorter COAL so maybe I try to match that...

Anyway. Had fun with a steel gopher, some apples at 150y, and grandpas rifle offhand. Then we stretched out to 725y and had some fun. There was a guy shooting 7mm prc I think and was basically matching my shots.

Then my rifle finally got too fouled to run properly. Havent cleaned it at all in probably 500 rounds. Maybe more.

Anyone play around with Tokarevs?

Got a Yugo M57 that the trigger isn't always actually triggering on the first press, kinda thinking it has something to do with the terrible import safety

Finished the rifle I've been putting together for my wife.   She wanted something with more reach than the CZ457 in .22LR she's been shooting, so I decided to build her a .223.  Rem 700 SPS, KRG Bravo stock, Triggertech trigger, Athlon Ares ETR 4.5-30x56.   Her CZ has a Bravo stock, so this pretty much duplicates the ergonomics.  She likes color on her guns, so I did a custom sponge paint camo for her.

It shot sub-MOA with some cheap PMC X-Tac 55gr when I test fired it in the factory stock, so I'm hoping it will be a good shooter once we figure out a load for it.

Got the itch to go shopping.  All my needs are met, so this would be pretty much a toy.  Neighbor just got a .22 pistol.  Do I want a Walther PPK/S in .22LR?  Or do the smart thing and get the Ruger Mk. 4?  Go crazy and get the H&K MP5 in .22LR?

Take a look at the Taurus tx22 line. Surprisingly good for not a lot of $$$.

Do they make a target model?  I'm kinda looking for something with a cool factor, and I'm not sure the TX-22 has it.  Nothing against Taurus, they make a fine product that is a great value.

Do you want a serious target gun, or just a range toy?

The Ruger Mk4 is a pretty good value, and has an excellent aftermarket... you could go either way with one.

For 'cool' factor, I like my 1911 .22 Kimber conversion on a Tisas frame.

You can buy the Kimber top half as a conversion and put it on just about any 1911 frame, or buy a Kimber Rimfire Target as a complete gun.  This is very different from the cheapo $300 1911 .22s by Colt/Walther or Sig... much better quality and accuracy.

A PPK/s may be cool, but they're not that great to shoot, and probably won't be very accurate.

More a serious target gun than a toy.  So, I've pretty much already eliminated the MP5.  Probably end up with the Ruger.

I have a .22 upper for mine. IT's a little finicky about ammo but is great for training the wife to clear the gun.

Ruger is probably a good bet.  Great aftermarket.

If you want to get more serious, an older S&W M41 or High Standard can be very accurate, but can also be finicky.  And High Standards are getting a little iffy for parts (they've been out of production for a long time).

If you want to get really serious, there's loads of used Walther and Hammerli olympic pistols out there, but again parts may be an issue, especially for Hammerli.

1911?  Which conversion?

I've found the Kimbers to be really reliable.  I've heard the older Advantage arms was good as well, but never tried one, nor have I shot an original Ace.  I also have a TacSol conversion, and it's way more finicky than the Kimber, and mags are impossible to get.  It will run with the Kimber mags, but not 100%.
