Mom's husband retired, his work gave him a yearly boot allowance, so he retired with 6 pairs of nice boots. The Boot Barn he got em at allows returns with the tags on.
As a result, I was given a pair of Justin steel toes that feel like my size, but also I'm not sure how much heel-slip new boots should have.
Looked around online and got conflicting info on whether i should trade em in or not. Anyone able to tell em how much slip is appropriate?

My preferred boots, Red Wing King Toe composite-toe ADCs, do not have any heel slip. This is what I prefer on job sites: I want a boot that is snug around my ankle and heel but has room for my feet as I'm working all day. The Red Wings are the best-fitting boots I've owned, and every couple years I buy the exact same pair as a replacement.
That being said, for days when I'm primarily in the office but might need to be in the field or the shop a bit, I picked up some Duluth Trading Co. safety-toe slip-on boots. They're surprisingly comfortable but do have some heel slip, and even in EE width they're not nearly as generous in the toe box as the Red Wings. Anything that's a slip-on will have some heel slip: The opening for your foot simply has to be wider to accommodate ingress/egress, and it cannot be tightened like a lace-up. I don't think I'd want my slip-ons for long days on my feet because I would fear blisters on my heels; I suppose the answer to that would be to wear thicker socks, but that would be a matter of preference.
If you don't like any heel slip, go with a lace-up boot. That said, there are tons of people who like Ariat for work boots so it's clearly manageable.
Same here no heal slip for me, either.

Wife unit bought Justin boots for her horsey events but she never got more than a year out of them.
I'm on year 8 for a pair of Red Wing Iron Rangers.
No heel slip unless you like blisters.
I wear steel toe boots 6-7 days a week
I like 6" moc toes, Danner or Brunt. My current pair of Brunts was a 1/2 day break in and only one ankle felt bad, probably due to over tightening. Flat sole variety. berkeley me they are comfortable. I stand on hard-assed steel every day.
I swap out every day at 0445 and 1420 into slip-on Vans. Thus my endearment to flat soles.
Would a heel slip in or pads like a Dr. Scholl limit the slip?

Like I mentioned, they said they could be returned for a different size, so I'll try that first.
