So were all just like Brad Pitt!
Punching Kitty said:
Brad Pitt is from Missouri, and his parents still live in Missouri while he has gone on to be famous and do all kinds of cool stuff including be in tons of awesome movies and Angelina Jolie. But deep down he’s just like you and me because his mom is still embarrassing the crap out of him by writing letters to the local Springfield, MO paper denouncing homosexual lifestyles and abortion. Future daughter-in-laws that have made out with their own brother didn’t make the list however and thus that practice is confirmed to be, as expected, cool in southeast Missouri.
We know this because it was confirmed, and then unconfirmed and then confirmed again by the Vital Voice who originally picked up the story yesterday:
Vital VOICE on Thursday confirmed from News-Leader reporters that Pitt’s mother authored the letter, published under “Reader’s Letters.” Jane Pitt wrote in response to a previously published letter to the editor titled “Vote for Mormons Against Beliefs.” She writes:
“I have given much thought to Richard Stoecker’s letter (“Vote for Mormon against beliefs,” June 15). I am also a Christian and differ with the Mormon religion.
But I think any Christian should spend much time in prayer before refusing to vote for a family man with high morals, business experience, who is against abortion, and shares Christian conviction concerning homosexuality just because he is a Mormon.
Any Christian who does not vote or writes in a name is casting a vote for Romney’s opponent, Barack Hussein Obama — a man who sat in Jeremiah Wright’s church for years, did not hold a public ceremony to mark the National Day of Prayer, and is a liberal who supports the killing of unborn babies and same-sex marriage.
I hope all Christians give their vote prayerful consideration because voting is a sacred privilege and a serious responsibility.”
In short, Jane Pitt pretty much hates activities that directly lead to the not having of a baby. To which we calmly say: Whatever bitch! We can’t all pop out Brad Pitts! The vast majority of us would make something more like Danny DeVito and we as a nation are collectively good to go on those for a while. You live in Springfield for god sakes, so swing by the Walmart and tell us again what’s wrong with two dudes in love not making one of those creatures (or better yet, adopting one of those people and taking care of them wonderfully, especially by putting them in better clothes that don’t involve so much denim or hand-cut arm and leg openings)! You made a baby, did a good job of making him handsome and he somehow figured out how to not concern himself about what other people do privately, so congrats to you. More importantly, congrats to him, because holy crap look at that image up there! Smoking hot. Right now there are Christian broads reading this that were totally agreeing with Jane Pitt and then looked up at that photo and instinctually thought “I would hop on that faster the last time I did that same thing with the girl at Catholic school because two guys dared us and we were super drunk…I mean she is very pretty…and I love Jesus!” You may think that homosexuality is anti-”family values”, but your son has a huge family and his partner (not married!) might as well be considered a lesbian factory and has caused more “tissue based pre-abortions” than maybe anyone over the last 15 years.
Think about that Jane Pitt. We have…are right now…just did!

LOL sucks to be him
And we all know Jesus was big on business experience...
I'd be proud of my mom if she wrote such a letter.
Plus, the article is offensive.
I don't know how you guys got enough out of her letter to be offended or proud. The letter portion flows off the page but the commentary is all there.
I am offended by the commentary.

If you click the link, the text of the letter is nicely formatted there.

That's way too simple! So simple that when I scrolled back up several times I never went that far and kept trying to read the text on GRM. Now to do it the right way.
I'M BACK!
It seems to be a well put letter with a reasonable degree of thought put into it. No reason for Brad to get all embarrassed about it.
She stated her beliefs quite clearly and in very few words.

He must disagree with her, and find her views so offensive that being associated with them by familial link is embarrassing to him.
That's what I'd guess, anyway.

There were a few things in there that I would find not offensive, but embarrassing. The use of Obama's middle name can only be construed as a stab at his heritage for one. Secondly, Brad is not a follower of mainstream religion, and although she does have a right to voice her opinion, she will always ride upon the tail of Brad's celebrity status. I was raised Catholic and the church's hardcore stance on gays and abortion were two main things that pushed me away. I'd be embarrassed. But yes, she has a right to... write.
The use of Obam's middle name is just that his middle name. Are you or he embarrassed by his middle name? I could read that into it just as easily as your interpretation.
In reply to carguy123:
I could care less about his middle name, but I've only seen it used in arguments against him. I don't think that would be done if the name didn't carry the same connotation. If my mom did that, I'd be embarrassed.
...(deleted stuff)...
Wait, I have a hobby! That's how I wound up on this site in the first place!!
ZW contributes to the very core of the point again
On point, Pitts Mom made her opinion clearly, the article was contrite and frankly stupid.
My opinion.
Almost everyone has contributed and I want to put it out there that if you don't agree you suck. In all seriousness I respect all of the contributing opinions.

Don't forget about Catholics looking down on divorce and shunning those who do get divorced.

Somebody has to be the voice of reason. You're just lucky it's me.
I'd say Momma knows best. Looks like Brad slept through a few lessons.
Thanks for not deleting the main post, oh leader, my leader. (and not locking such a civil thread)

Not familiar with it, but I'm glad to hear it was used in a positive way.

Wow, that was very Iggy of you. More Iggy than the current Iggy is, in fact.
was it offensive every time our previous president's middle initial was used to identify him?
or how about when i call the presumptive Republican nominee for president by his given legal first name- Willard?
