Just spotted this post on Slashdot. To survive on Slashdot, you have to be very smart.

And this guy has a karma boost (sign that you have a record of sustained smartness).
There seem to be a lot of intellectually-challenged points made on there. (Right. If I go 90 mph, I get better gas mileage than if I drive 55. - and - If you hit black ice, you will need to hit the gas to recover . . . )
Actually depending on the car, its coefficient of drag, the gearing and efficiency of the engine you may get better mileage at 90 than at 55. Case in point, old Daytona turbo did this. 30mpg at 90mph on the way to Vegas. Engine was at 3000rpm and the turbo was producing just enough boost to keep the vacuum gauge at 0. Since the engine in that motor uses batch fire injection, it gets worse mileage at low speeds than it does at high- mid range engine speeds.
Yeah that article's a real mess. I often see a big overlap between computer geeks and car entusiasts but it's not showing there.
Here's another good one:

If your engine ceases to get fuel under engine braking, it will no longer run. I guess it will instantly drop to 0rpm and lock your wheels or something.

Sure. My point was really how some people were coming to that conclusion. Like, at 80 MPH (and solely because he has a six-speed "stick"), his car doesn't use any fuel at idle so he can just stay off the gas.
Yeah, computer geeks are as bad as car guys. Tons of misinformation that is believed as gospel and spread around quickly by people who don't fully research or understand the concepts. I know I've fallen into that trap more than once and since I'm both a car guy and a computer geek, I get it from both sides.
