Red light camera catches a Drunk Driver slam into a bus

Nassau County huh. oh yeah they have really sharp red light cameras.....
tickets are a pain to get. Ask how i know
reminds me of an almost accident I saw yesterday. Porsche SUV sitting in the left hand turning lane decides that the light it taking too long.. so floors it back into traffic... right in front of a school bus.
Bus locked them up to avoid the SUV... driver of the porsche goes half a block down the road and into a jughandle to make his U-turn...
I am just glad nobody on the bus of the McDonalds got hurt.. that could have been very mess
Wifey saw a body after a fatal at one of our lights with photo enforcement. I'm looking forward to hearing what happened. It is a 40 mph busy road. Fatal crashes can be weird like that.
The news story implies it was a good thing the cameras were there to catch the footage. But the drunk driver would have been caught no matter what - he wasn't getting away from that one. The camera's principal contribution was to make for great TV, but great TV doesn't make a thing Constitutional. Red light cameras occupy Constitutionally dubious real estate and should be resisted by residents of municipalities which ponder or implement them. But if you aren't cool with a little libertarianism, please keep in mind it's just an opinion and I love dorky cars as much as the rest of you.
I can't understand the lousy quality of the video. ID'ing a plate is impossible with those. OK, nighttime, but I have 200.00 cameras that work MUCH better than that. I'm sure Nassau county paid a bit more than that.
For those who aren't from the area, that's one of those intersections were a red light camera is absolutely warranted; rt 347 & nicoles rd is another one (suffolk county)...
It looked like there were two camera's on the pole. Maybe one that they release to the public and another is private? Or a still to read the plates and a video to record the action?

I think you started a flounder, then un-floundered all in one post. Good job!
