I've been looking for a cheap but reliable automotive appliance for my step-son recently, and have been getting frustrated with the results(too expensive for the condition and/or too beat for the price). However, today I checked out a mid-90's Corolla with 250kmi that runs/drives fine, has a partial maintenance history, and won't need much of my attention for the foreseeable future. Price is $1850.00.

Sound like a reasonable deal???

For comparison's sake, here are the recent ones I've looked at/into:

'97 Aspire, 170kmi, $2200. Sold before I got there.

'00 Cavalier with 160kmi and rebuilt title, $3300. I passed due to the rebuilt title, crappy respray, and cracked dash(looked like accident damage).

'01 Focus with 180kmi, $2700. Overall beat to crap, bald tires, bare metal on the body in places, didn't look like it would make it around the block(battery was dead & had a flat tire, so I didn't bother driving it).

I'm sure that gas prices hovering around and just under $4/gal have people clamouring for cheap, economical transportation, but this seems worse than when CFC was in effect.

I wouldn't buy any of those, including the Corolla with 250k. Be patient. You'll find the right deal.

I'm with Zomby Woof. Corolla is a good call, but you can do better than 250k for that money, at least around here.

I got my 95 Camry about 6 months or so ago and it had 225K(I think). I traded my F150 I was trying to sell for $1700(CL priced at $2200 ). Its a 4cyl/5 spd.

I think the price on the Rolla is a tad high. They go for less around here. $1250 would be more in line.

I drive a 88 Rolla GT-S as my DD. With a Megasquirted JDM 20v motor, of course.

i've spent a fair amount of time maintaining my mother's 'Rolla that sounds like that one, but hers is in rough, rough shape from years of neglect. They're not bad cars, and I'm seeing them around 2k in good shape w/high miles locally.

I would say that rolla is a bit high for my neck of the woods too, maybe 1500 here.

You can come to KY and buy my Toyota Pickup for him for not a lot more money than that c-rolla.

You'll need to log in to post.
