SCCA etc is real slim pickin's around my current area. The SCCA Solo sticker on the Trooper is the only one I've seen. The ricer kids ignore the Jensen because they don't know what it is, but guys/girls about my age driving their averagemobiles will 'thumbs up' in traffic and I always acknowledge. The funny part of all that? Fellow Brit car owners (MG, Triumph, A/H, Jag etc) are like the ricer kids in that they don't pay it squat attention. I guess its air of superiority scares 'em off.
The XS650 gets a LOT of looks/waves/etc from the sportbike crowd, the Harley riders refuse to acknowledge anything that's not from The Motor Company. Oh, well.
When I'm out in the Barracuda I'll give a quick wave (a-la Jeep wave style) to oncoming vintage cars when I'm out. Most reciprocate, some initiate.
Harley guys tend to look and give their wave too. I guess it's a black and chrome thing.
A couple years ago I was sitting at a light in the left lane, a plain Camery in the right lane next to me, and a right turning lane next to him. A Fox body Mustang came up behind us, got in the right turning lane, revved it up a couple times then jumped on it when he made his turn. The guy in the Camery turned to us and said "That must have been for you!" We all chuckled. Oh, the Mustang had a GRM bumper sticker on it too. Yea, really.
When I had my '01 Suby RS I'd be coming down that same stretch of road on Monday evenings on the way home from work. A kid in a rusty 80's BMW (not the e30, whatever the next chassis size up was) with a far cannon on the back would weave through traffic to get next to me, rev up next to my car and jump on it. This happened several weeks in a row. Got old fast. When I had my Dakota out he never even noticed me. I started driving the Dak more on Mondays.

Nice color for that wall; full disclosure, my living room walls are nearly identical.
ROFL! It's just a random pic off the intertubez. When I sold my last 2002 20yrs ago, it did have a no-space sticker on it. Guy who bought it was just as stoked about that as he was anything else.
I wave at VW Beetles when I'm in my DD '72 Beetle. New ones, old ones, whatever. Only wave I ever got back was a chance encounter with a cute gal in another classic Beetle going the other direction. Full-on, out-the-window wave and horn honks from her. Made my day.
I get LOTS of acknowledgement from people while towing the Alfa racecar, or riding the cafe bike. Kids are the best by far.

I admit I have tried to wave to other car type guys and gals. Sadly I am rarely driving a car that would ID me as friend rather than foe (state issued F250's do not scream I am a Car Guy). Case in point I see a subtle RX8 with small SCCA sticker on it every so often around my small town and have often tried to find a chance to speak to the driver to no avail. I say try to get a chance to meet the driver of the Mustang outside of his car and it might go better.
I've seen that car ... can't get a look/nod howdie from him either
I wave at everybody. I wave a people that stop at stop signs, I wave at school bus drivers, I wave at people who yield, even if they're supposed to. I don't care if they wave back, or if they even acknowledge me, because I had the opportunity to wave, and I did. And that's enough.

I do the same thing I just use my middle finger , if I am able to I use other arm to bend elbow while waving . Be an individual wave , salute whatever but never follow .
When people give me the finger (as does occasionally happen), I always smile and wave.
Speaking of camaraderie, My buddy and I used to do a lot of wrenching in his (work's) shop. I noticed a couple of guys about the same age, a few units down most nights doing exactly the same thing. One night we were all out in the parking lot, so I figured it was a good time to meet them. I walked over and said hey guys, what's happening? One guy didn't even look. The other did, gave me a nasty look said berkeley off, and walked into his shop. I haven't been as eager to make new friends ever since.
If there is a way to put 3 head on shrimp in a door panel of one of those peoples cars ,,,,,

I was coming home the other night in my E36 M3. Some middle-aged guy in a full sized Cadillac pulls away from the light with me, and then floors it. (I was accelerating at a normal rate) We get to the next streetlight and he yells over at me "your car is slow!"
Me--laughing- "I didn't know we were racing"
Him-- "doesn't matter....you lost anyways"
He then preceded to haul ass away from the light.....poor Sedan Deville!
Some folks out there are a bit "touched" no sense poking them....
I always play along with guys like that. being a nascar fan if I can't keep up with them I dump them when they try to turn a corner. They never see the bump and run coming
This is why I started my own club--to bring back some of that camaraderie. I'm not interested in holding events--there's enough track days, autocrosses, road races, etc. in our area--so I'm working on the social aspect. Get people mingling and get them to events.
We met the other night for slot cars--easy, free entertainment. We had some local college kids, friends from the PCA, another regular from up in Jacksonville, etc. Everyone hung out, had fun, etc.
We've done dinners, Roar Before the Rolex paddock tour, lunch at a car show, etc. There's no fee to join and, to be honest, I don't care what you drive.

some people aren't in it for the comraderie and don't want to get sucked into a half hour conversation with a stranger that is in it for the comraderie..
