So, I'm in the market for a new camcorder, and I'm not sure whether to look at new HD consumer stuff or used "prosumer" SD stuff. This really has my eye for a number of reasons: Monster 58mm lens, good manual controls, apparently exceptional HD resolution, and it's a Canon, which I've always liked. There's also a few companies that make 35mm adapters so you can put Canon EF lenses on them.

Buuuuttt...

I've also noticed that for around the same $1000, give or take, you can find used Canon GL1s and GL2s, and for not too much more you can get used XL1s. The drawbacks: Used, no HD, tape is durable but not nearly as convenient as flash memory.

Then there's the Red Scarlet coming out soon which will probably render everything obsolete. But that looks like a really good way to start down the path of spending a lot of money, too.

So, suggestions? Anyone have any good experiences with quality camcorders they'd like to share before I plunk down some coin?

By the way, this will be used mostly to make videos for you people. And to film myself dressing as a woman. Pray I don't get mixed up when uploading.

If "The Red Scarlet" doesn't work, you can always give'er the old "Gorilla Mask."
