Boost in - Flywheel out
Can you say "Scatter shield"? I didn't think so.
Good thing that it's a left-hand drive or he might have a chunk of steel in place of his wiggly bits...
WOWZA!!!
IIRC, scatter shields are only mandatory in certain classes or if a car reaches a certain E.T.
Of course this was in Puerto Rico so they may not follow the same rules as the mainland. I have no idea if the NHRA sanctions the track there.
might be a bit of a silly question, but how would one add a scatter shield to a FWD car with a transverse mounted engine?

Same way you add a scatter blanket to a cop or a soldier ;)
You wrap it in a carbon/kevlar blanket.
I am not certain much would have contained that popper. Look at the damage to the radiator support and the fixed points.
In reply to John Brown:
Yeah. I guess a loose flywheel with the starter gear attached would be a 8000rpm buzzsaw..
We need a google eye's smiley!
I'd like to see inside the car. The rad support and everything else was destroyed, I wonder how much went into the passanger compartment?

Yeah, I was hoping to see the pass compartment too. I guess that's what you get when you build your car at Pep Boys

Can I interest you in some barely-used CRX parts?

What are you going to buff with? The remains of the drives nut sack?
I thought it was funny how the front of the car just fell apart.
Would have been more funny to see the flywheel trying to escape down the strip on it's own
