Like the title says, can I cut a fridge into pieces? I mean, oh of course I can, but am I going to get Frigidaire shrapnel in my face, or worse? I need to get a fridge out of a basement solo.

Whatcha doing with Freon? (I might know a guy that failed doing this)
Also I cut up a puffy couch in my basement with a circular saw.
Cut away. You'll go through a lot of blades. Plan your cuts carefully so that garbage can size pieces don't end where you can't cut through like where the fridge and freezer sections meet. Good luck at the bottom where the compressor and such are.
My old man cut the bottom half off a chest freezer then made a new bottom to make a very generous sized icebox.
Other than venting the gas in your basement, I don't see it being a problem.
Question though? I assume it made it down to the basement in 1 piece, so why can't it go out that way? Removing the door an option?
Make sure it's not new enough to have flammable gas. If it is freon, you ought to try to recover it first.
They don't weigh that much. Strap it to a two wheel dolly and heave it out. If it works the power company might give you $50 for it.
I did this a couple months ago eith our RV fridge so I could get it out the door of the RV. The major juice had leaked out of the cooling unit, so I took the sawzall to it...only not all the juice was out & I got sprayed with a face full of ammonia. That was fun, don't do that.
I might sacrifice a spine, and try and hoist it out. Sounds like Sawz-All will be more trouble than its it's worth.

Not my basement . A buddy's rental house. The..."tenants" decided to leave it full of food. My buddy neglected to check it to see if it was full of food. His back is no bueno, so I get to take it out. The timeframe is asap.
Yes, hes paying me.
Ok, I'm here to help. I'm an appliance tech. If it's r134a it's not explosive but still hazardous to health. So you need to reclaim the refrigerant because it's bad to release to the ozone.
if the model and serial tag says r600 it IS Flammable and you should absolutely not cut into it.
Once you unbolt the doors and remove the shelves the case should be wrestlable using a hand truck.
I'd do that before cutting one up.
Hopefully it is empty. I would remove the compressor and doors and pull those out separate. Of the unit. The remainder will not be that heavy.
If you let the freon out in an enclosed small basement it could displace enough oxygen to cause you to pass out.
Plenty ventilation required. Just sayin'...
I had a new refrigerator delivered about a month ago. Two guys showed up, wheeled the fridge to my front door, then put on some harnesses, slipped the loose harness under the fridge, and carried the thing into the house to the kitchen. Let's just say they were a lot stronger than they looked.

Oh that's horrible. When I was 15, one of my good friends grandfathers did house repo's. He offered a nice chunk of change to come help clean it out.
You could smell the house from the driveway, and it had been fumigated already. Part of it was the same, power turned off with food in the fridge. When we opened it, an insane amount of maggots poured out. Gives me the chills just thinking about that place, I can still remember almost everything about it nearly 25 years later.

Shoulder dolly. Those things can make normal humans carry pretty significant loads because of how they distribute the weight. Dad had one to carry base cabinets and granite countertops and it was pretty life-changing. When he shut the business down, we made sure that tool made it to the new shop! They're not great for going up lots of steep steps, but it's certainly worth a try if you can get a buddy to work the opposite end.
Go to your local home depot and rent one of these https://www.homedepot.com/p/rental/Milwaukee-Hand-Trucks-Appliance-Dolly-HDA700/309419408
If there is food in it, duct tape that E36-M3 closed and get 2 helpers to push. Dangle beer money in front of college students.
Seriously, ESPECIALLY if there is rotting food in it, just duct tape it shut for your own sanity.
I sold a house with a deep freeze left behind because we renovated the mud room and could not remove it any more. Of course the add did not say that exactly. It said "almost new deep freeze included with sale"

Do this ^^ it is by far the easiest and cheapest option. If you don't want to pay for disposal, drag it to the curb. In my neck of the woods it wouldn't last long before scrappers get it, just make sure to duct tape the hell out of it so they don't open it and empty the food on the lawn.
