Can this forum move past Politics?

Then why have "off topic"? If we are here to read only about cars, then we certainly have no need whatsoever for an Off topic area. All threads would be about cars, and therefore on topic.

When the off topic forum first came on line I tested the waters with the famous toothpaste post. 1100 views no responses. Some posts die on their own right!

I figure this forum is a lot like hanging out in the garage with friends. You don't talk only cars in the garage. You talk about what ever comes up. Sometimes that is politics. Unfortunately politics is front and center at this time, therefor it's going to come up a lot in the "garage". As long as we can discuss our views and not have our disagreements devolve into a name calling screaming match, I kind of enjoy hearing other perspectives. Learning why someone thinks or feels the way they do makes understanding their position possible, even when you don't necessary agree with them.

Y'know, it's kinda weird..when I first saw the forum titles, since the main forum was called "Grassroots Motorsports", I thought the "Off Topic" forum would be for Pro racing or expensive street cars.

But without it, I never would have heard about ECM's bees, or Leslie's BIG TRUCK. And I wouldn't have been able to brag about finding that Rhino/Warner reissue of Lil' Feat's "Wating for Columbus", either. IMO, the political stuff's a small price to pay for cool things like that...

Well, like I said in the other post, I do that stuff elsewhere.
