Mr. Belenko was a frequent "visitor" at TOPGUN. He was flown in after hours when most of the base was dormant. He came in a variety of different aircraft, F15, F16, T38, or our F5. When brought in by the USAF, they frequently taxied in, shut down 1 engine, he'd climb out, restart the engine and taxi out before the field closed. It appeared to be timed to get weight off wheels just as the field closed. They were a little more sneaky than the Navy was when transporting him.
It took me a couple months to realize who the guy was that I was helping into and out of the aircraft. Once I knew, I made it a point to be the one that was voluntold to work late and greet him. I brought the book out one evening and asked him to sign it as soon as he took off his helmet. He was visibly confused and asked "You know who I am?" Yessir. He signed it, we shook hands and I told him that I'd see him again in a few days.

I got flown over by an Osprey once. I heard it loooong before I could see it, and long after it was gone.
