Does ground have to be the shoreline? Or perhaps an underwater cliff face?

Submerged seamount which they hit at nearly maximum speed, one of the crew died of injuries from the collision. The tarp is covering what's left of the bow sonar, the forward ballast tanks are badly damaged. Pre VLS boat (no cruise missile tubes in the forward ballast tanks), it may have been helpful as the added weight forward might have been a really bad thing in this case.
